Rob Navin Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I have just given in to temptation after I decided I "needed" one of these phones. Is any one else using one ? Are they as good as I have been lead to believe ? There is lots been made of the in build GPS, does the phoen come with sat nav as standard and if not where do you get a sat nav package for it ? Cheers Rob Quote
jos Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Ive played with a work colleagues N95 and its very impressive Decent size too compared to the handset he was using which i think was a n70 Quote
scooby Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I have one. Load of ****e..... I'am on my 3rd one, Buggy as hell and the SAT nav costa fortune to run..... Better with a N73 , i wish had not changed Quote
amc_black Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Handled a colleagues N95 the other day and it felt poorly built and very plasticky. I wouldn't expect it to survive much use/abuse. Having said that the design is clever (slide down for MP3, slide up for calls) and seems packed with features. Just not my thing and not sure how long it would last. Quote
tex Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I have one. Load of ****e..... I'am on my 3rd one, Buggy as hell and the SAT nav costa fortune to run..... Better with a N73 , i wish had not changed i have an N73 - even that is buggy as.. can lock up - and can go slow - its a good fone tho - the camera is something else... better than the digital camera i have!! - i think nokia and fone people need to put more memory in them... they do struggle sometimes to keep up.. i was looking at sat nav for the mobile but - they are no where near a proper one.. - new garmins for about 150 notes.. thin - bargain.. sedsy Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Try this site Rob you can compare phones etc here Click Click Quote
Rob Navin Posted May 13, 2007 Author Posted May 13, 2007 Cheers for the input guys ! I'm running an N72 at the min so I was aware of the bugs and the sofware updates you can get for them. I guess they will be out for the 95 in due course. Sedsy's site gives a much better write up than the 72 so I will give it a go and swap it if I don't like it. They seem to be making strong money on E-bay so I guess its worth a punt. Cheers Rob Quote
bofus Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I have had a N95 since launch day...very good toy. I doesn't like SMS delivery when using other apps, it very occasionally (3 times in 6 weeks) has crashed. The GPS needs the slide up to work properly due to the keyboard shielding the antenna for the GPS. Recommend that you get the phone a an unlimited GPRS data contract to allow full use of the phone and GPS. i use T-Mobile web 'n' walk having moved from O2 to get this phone 63 quid for 3 years mapping and navigation isn't expensive, it is a shame that the Nokia s/w is a bit immature compared to Garmin and Tomtom O2 now have a Smartphone based GPS phone as well Quote
ChrisG Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 I have one. Load of ****e.....I'am on my 3rd one, Buggy as hell and the SAT nav costa fortune to run..... Better with a N73 , i wish had not changed I assume you're referring to data charges with the sat nav downloading maps on the move, but it doesn't have to cost a fortune to run, in fact it doesn't need to cost anything! All you need to do is download the entire UK maps onto your phone's SD card using the Maploader app run on your PC then it never needs to download maps whilst on the move, so doesn't cost anything from then on unless you want the full voice guidance navigation which you can subscribe to for between £5 and £60 depending on subscription length. Most Nokia N series do seem to be a bit buggy though, especially when first launched but having had 3 N95s over the last month (sent back due to crap network coverage in my area, not because of the phone), I don't think it's that bad. Some of the bad press the N95 has has is because people want to believe that a phone with built in sat nav and built in 5MP camera is going to be as good as a standalone GPS unit and a standalone compact 5MP camera, but when all that functionality is built into a phone that only weighs 100g and is made to a budget, there's always going to be compromises. davew Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Wheres the cheapest place to get on of these without having to spend £50/month Quote
ChrisG Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Do you mean without contract? If so, the cheapest will be buying "unwanted" upgrades off ebay but some of those are locked to the networks they were sold on, and obviously buying second hand is a bit of a lottery, especially because as mentioned some N95s do have more bugs / problems than others (loose sliders being one of them). Other than that I think the cheapest I saw it non contract when I looked a few weeks ago was on The Link website at about £430, although there might be cheaper places now. If you don't mind going on a contract though, you don't need to spend £50/month to get one. I got mine on an Orange contract from one of their highstreet shops, £30 / month contract, £120 for the phone but £100 trade-in for ANY old mobile phone, so I traded in an old 8310 worth about £10 and will flog my N70 on Ebay so overall should pocket about £60-80.
