Hope someone can help i'm building a SEI 16v Vx engine on a type 9 box. the chassis i have was for a ford zetec and i have removed part of the engine mout that was welded on to the chassis ( as instructed with WF ) but i have mounted the engine + box as far back as poss, drilled out front mounts but the rear gearbox mount is a mile out ( well actually 4" ) so there is nothing to bolt it to, if i make a plate and bolt it on so it sits on existing mount and chassis bars will this work ? has any body else had this problem?

Is there anyone who has put a vauxhall 2.0 16v engine in a westfield after another engine had already been fitted ? they may have had a similar problem!

Rick

Im not sure if i can help at all but here goes,

ive recently put  the same engine and gearbox in my car which has a MT75 chasis and where the gearbox mount is located is on a metal plate that is bolted to the chasis via 4 pre welded tubes, which the bolts go straight through with a nut on the end. if your car has these lugs then i could see no problem with a new plate being bolted on other than that do you know anyone who could weld it on for you?

Your plan of a 4 inch extension plate sounds perfectly ok that's what i did to mine and it's held for the last 10 years

make sure the plate is about the same thickness as the original and there's plenty of overlap I would go for 4 bolts to hold the plate in place

Another vote for yes it's ok.

I have a type 9 chassis.  When I first built my car I fitted a crossflow with a four speed box which was shorter than a type 9. I made a 3mm steel plate to move the mounting point forward (about 4") and bolted it to the existing chassis plate with four M8 bolts.  It went through the SVA like that with no problem.  Since fitted a VX with a type 9 so now using the original mounting point.
