Norman Verona Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Went to the hospital today to find out if I was going to see my next birthday. Seems that I might but they don't know whats wrong. We decided to look around the shops and stay in Chateubriand for a meal. Whilst sitting in the restaraunt it came over very black and a cloudburst with hailstones the size of quails eggs fell out of the sky. Everyone in the restaurant got up to look at this phenomenon. Very interesting, especially as the Elise had the roof off! Merde! and I now have a wet bum and so does she! Quote
V8grunt Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Aaaaah We, La Merde! Weather like we don't get in Britain. Up in the North.... France Normandy that is, They don't say "wee" for yes! It's always "Aaahh We ( the we pronounced as in wet) I've seen it rain in England. And I know it is an eye opener when it rains in France. I have been down in Grasse Just out of Monte Carlo, watching a thunder storm out in the med. Later that night it came in land...... Lightening strikes were about every 3 to 4 seconds!!!! Just enjoy it Norm.... And put your roof on! Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 We used to summer in Grasse. very nice place. Once did it from Chigwell on the hovercraft in one day! Mind you I blew the turbo on my Renault 18. Did the same the following year as well. The turbo's overheated on the long non-stop motorway. We were in Bordeaux two years ago and I was sitting on my own by the pool whilst the rest of the group (about 16 people) were sitting outside the house. I was watching the lightning in the distance and it was arcing (pun intended) round but getting nearer. When I could hear the faint thunder I got up and walked back to the house. "we'd better pack up, it's going to rain in a minute, there's thunder and lightning getting nearer" One of the group responded with "Oh no there's not, I haven't seen it" I didn't have time to answer before it just pi55ed down with rain and we all got wet. Earlier on that trip we were in the centre of France (Montelucon) and a few of us got lost on the way back from the Resto. We were going down a very narrow lane when, in the distance, was the most fantastic storm I've ever seen. There was a huge hammerhead cloud and the lightening was jumping across, from one side to the other. We all stopped and got out the cars and stood there for about 20 minutes watching natures fireworks display. But today really was something else again. It was scorching hot at 6pm and lumps of ice falling from the sky just over an hour later. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 MR2 is pronounced 'merde' in France I gather. Stroke of genius by the marketing people. Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Thats correct. EmAirDeux sounds like Merde. I've forgotton now why Nissan changed from Datsun but it is a swear word somewhere in the world. The clever manufacturers use numbers rather than names to avoid this problem. Did you know that Porsche originally called the 911 the 901. Peugeot politely (I bet!) pointed out that they had always used numbers with zero in the middle as their model names. So we got the 911. Quote
V8grunt Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Did you know that the "Mitsubushi Starion" should have been the..... "Mitsubushi Stallion" Unfortunately the Japanese cannot pronounce their L's Hyundai named one of their cars the "Pony" even tho it's cockney rhyming slang for Crap! And what were Ford thinking about when they called one of their cars the "Probe" Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 When I talk to my Japense friends Stallion comes out as Starrion anyway. Good decision. Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Oh, by the way, anyone know the best way to dry the interior of a flooded Elise? Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Ah So, Normansan! You must bro dry a wet Rotus Erise. Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 I gave it a blow job but that made it wetter Quote
matthew h Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 QUOTE Oh, by the way, anyone know the best way to dry the interior of a flooded Elise? Get the wife to do it? Joking aside I always used a towel & bought a shower cap! Quote
Liam Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Oh, by the way, anyone know the best way to dry the interior of a flooded Elise? Put a load of newspaper in it and leave it for a couple of days Quote
Norman Verona Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Matthew, she wants to know why you have a death wish! Liam, the surface is dry and the passenger seat is dry because it had the shortarses cushions on it. If you push lightly down on my seat it wells up with water! Quote
bhouse Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Norman - the only solution I ever found was to leave the car with a roof on and a dehumidifier for a passenger for a day or two. And I wish I'd seen that hovercraft setting off from Chigwell :-) Quote
