Keith Scarfe Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Sorry for the OT question but I know there are some IT people on here who may be able to help. Does anyone use Hotmail along with MSN messenger (v8.1)? When messenger is running, you can go directly to your hotmail in box from it. Either by clicking the envelope or right click ‘go to my email in box’. When I do this it always says password invalid please re enter. I re enter and it is ok. I think it uses Microsoft passport to transfer the user and password. On the hotmail sign in there is a dialogue with radio buttons to ‘Save my email address and password’ save just email and always ask. It always comes up with ‘save email address’ and if I click either of the others it doesn’t ‘remember’ the setting and next time and thus defaults to this again. Does anyone know what is happening? Is this info stored in a cookie or something? Can I go somewhere to check the settings? It is really annoying having to retype the password every time I want to look at in box. Thanks for any help. Keith. Quote
MAT1800 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Does anyone use Hotmail along with MSN messenger Yep When messenger is running, you can go directly to your hotmail in box from it. Yep Does anyone know what is happening? Nope Thanks for any help. You're welcome I'd just try unclicking any 'save password / email option' for both MSN and Hotmail, then log onto both again and retry the options to save. If you have changed you password etc, I think you may just have an older passsword saved. And thats the limit of my technical expertise. Quote
Keith Scarfe Posted April 30, 2007 Author Posted April 30, 2007 QUOTE You're welcome Thanks Not as easy as this. I've tried the obvious. It doesn't even remember the radio button setting if I go directly to hotmail from Internet Explorer. Password never ever changed since I have had hotmail. It used to work. Suddenly just stops. It started working again recently (automatically goes straight in) but stopped again the other day. Something must be clearing the password in passport. I don’t know how to check this. Quote
MAT1800 Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 Just had another thought... Again may be obvious, but you never know.. Have you got the password time set to 'forever', I seem to remember both MSN and Hotmail have the option to set your password to expire after a certain number of days, to remind you to change it regularly... It's possible this may be the cause ? ? Quote
