lukeyboy Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 You'll have to excuse my thickness, but I'm a bit of an engine numptie. I really would like to do something in future with either a type r or s2000 engine. If I come across a decent one I will stick it away until I'm ready to do something. What worries me is that these engines seem quite techy and I was wondering if they will work properly without the Honda ECU / sensor stuff i.e. is the VTEC part of the engine electronic or mechanical, or is it just a straight forward engine like the rest, or can you strip it all off and put an off the shelf TB system and then have it rolling roaded / tuned? Basically what would need to be retained from the donor to make it run correctly or is there a better way of controlling them? Quote
Hammy Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Interesting point - Question really - is the V tec cam timing change driven off oil pressure via a soleniod valve ?(it was on my old Merc) If so you could use Megasquirt/jolt to switch the valve above a certain Rpm and woooosh. Quote
Martin Keene Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Interesting point - Question really - is the V tec cam timing change driven off oil pressure via a soleniod valve ?(it was on my old Merc) If so you could use Megasquirt/jolt to switch the valve above a certain Rpm and woooosh. Hammy's got it... The VTEC system is operated by oil pressure. At a certain RPM the ECU sends a signal to a solenoid, allowing oil to flow in a seperate gallery in the head. This fires pins across in the rocker gear, locking the followers onto a totally different cam profile. So any ECU that can operate a switch at a pre-determined RPM *should* be fine. MHC I believe is using a DTA. I also know of a S2000 engine running Emerald. Quote
david.c Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 If a Westfield has the aerodynamics of a brick......................then that must have the aerodynamics of a whole wall David Quote
Guest Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I think you mean some Westfiel owners have the mentallity of a p**ck. Not the aerodynamics of a brick. Quote

Guest Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Tell you one thing. It doesn't matter what kit you have on a day like today. They are all great fun. Quote
