Rob Marshall Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Anyone in the Swindon area (say 50 mile radius) got a 13" CXR (6" or 7") or a Caterham 8 spoke lightwieght rim I could borrow for a day (max probably only an hour or so) to check fitment over my new Golf rear calipers. I do not want to buy new rims until I know they will fit. Thanks Rob Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Rob, I've done this. One 13" rim fitted with a about .015" clearance and the other was just touching. Both were from the same set! If the fins were ground down 1/5" I think they would be OK. I think theres more on this on my web site, have a look here Quote
timbo7 Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Norman... it wasn't the fins that are the problem when fitting the 13" rims (I do agree tho as do need ground down) ... the brake hose union from the caliper (well my 2007 car anyay) would require to be modified to a different take off adapter instead of a vertical 90 degree brake union. Also the tyre fitters need to be very careful where they put the balance weights. I'm running caterham anthracite 15" 6.5 rims on my busa. 215s at the rear and 205s at the frt Toyo R888. I have golf rear calipers. The offset of the caterham rim means you will end up with frt wide track. This will require you to bend the cycle wing stays to suit. The rear rims if you run a 205/215 wide tyre may require you to increase the rear ride height (I have datchable arches fitted) as under suspension compression the outer edge of the arches may buff against the tyre. The 215 tyre does not extend beyond the arches. I have no problems my side using them. Quote
adhawkins Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 13" CXR's in Newbury. And I can offer my services as delivery driver if necessary (I work in Newbury, and live in Swindon). Andy Quote
Rob Marshall Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Thanks Andy & Enginearin, I have Adrian's 13" CXRs here, but they still do not fit I think my uprights mount the calipers too far out from the centreline of the hubs/wheels so they rub even after removing most of the fins. I assume the difference between Sierra and Golf uprights is the distance of the mounting holes from this centreline, can anyone confirm this??? For now I will have to go back to Sierra ones Quote
Martin Keene Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Do you still want to borrow a Caterham rim at the weekend? Quote
Rob Marshall Posted April 23, 2007 Author Posted April 23, 2007 Martin, I would still be interested in seeing one on there, would really like to see what the 8" ones would look like Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Rob, the ones I fitted were to ther rear. I assumed yours were for the rear. Sorry. However, when I fitted the Willwood's to the front I had to turn the hub down as they were too far out. I can't remember the details now, it was 5 years ago, but if you ring Rally Design in Kent and tell them you want to fit Willwood 4 pots to the front of your Caterham and can they tell you about machining the hub I think the answer may be of assistance.
