John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Well, how much so you think a honking great Sierra diff, drive shafts and calipers, an extra hoop on your roll bar, tractor wing mirrors and an accusump weigh? Oh, and your front upper wishbones are twice as long as ours and plated like the hull of the QE2 Quote
davidgh Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 tractor wing mirrors They weigh very little. They're meant as air-brakes, not ballast. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Yes - angled correctly I reckon that you could get some downforce Quote
Terry Everall Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 So,if your car was never fitted with carpets to floor or tunnel etc you dont have a problem Quote
barney Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 QUOTE In current form, we're around 530kg im in at 543 kgs....... with me in it,.. now the power to weight title must go to the reverend... Quote
woodman Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Sounds like i really must get some lighter wheels as mine were almost 20kgs per corner inc tyres! any recommendations Quote
fordy Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 superleagras if your on 15's (4.5Kgs+tyre) - or compomotive CRX (4Kg +tyre) if your on 13's. Or image if your wallet is up to it!!! Quote
custardtart Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 My narrow se with zetec and full cage is currently 565Kg but i'm on a diet to lose 30Kg as minimum weight limit is 530Kg. Ali calipers, hubs, shocks, dif casing and a 4speed box should do the trick! Quote
machin Posted April 30, 2007 Posted April 30, 2007 It does seem rather strange that there is such a difference, as our cars do seem very similar:- Narrow Body Live axle 4 Speed Box RAC roll bar (westfield type) No Spare Wheel No boot box, just a panel over the top Plain GRP seats (no padding, -which Rob's has), infact the passenger seat is a low backed go-Kart seat. 1 Gallon sprint Fuel Tank (Rob has the standard Westfield tank) No Heater Small battery VW Polo Rad (Rob has the Escort Rad) Light-weight Rad fan (1.08kg's) (assume Rob has the standard Fan. Standard westfield silencer (Rob has a big competition silencer). M&P headlights However : I am running 14" wheels that aren't particularly light (think they are about 13kg per corner incl tyres) (I thought yours were 15" Rob?) I have a fully trimmed interior (apart from the seats!), including tunnel and rear bulkhead carpet and rubber floor mats (whereas Rob doesn't have any trim) & Rob has removed the speedo from his car!!! All in all I'd have thought mine might be slightly lighter from the above list.... I've used my figure of 590kg's to calculate my engine BHP (using acceleration figures from my datalogger), so if my car is actually nearer Rob's 520kg's it means my power output would be nearer 90bhp rather than 100bhp... which seems very low..... 100bhp is bad enough! cast iron Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 554.5 for my wide bodied with screen and rabbit catchers, and full size tank although I now have alloy shocks, hubs, and super legerras, mind you they aint as light as people think. Quote

Oh and yes a cast alloy engine What are you comparing the Super Legerras with, they are one off the lightest around but probably aren't any lighter than your 14" Gates. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Oil weighs quite a lot Try leaving some out Quote
