Asterix Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 An anagrams of carpet as well not forgetting synonyms and disambiguations... Maybe we should have a minimum weight limit [edit] in roadgoing [/edit] running away... Quote
Rob Way Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 In classes A, B, C and D - The main chassis structure, body tub construction, suspension configuration and number of seats to remain as standard production. No internal trim may be removed except carpet. As the Carpet is specifically mentioned I think it implies that the tunnel carpet and rear bulkhead carpet should remain..... At least I have 2 windscreen wipers now so thats one less thing you can complain about. If we had minimum weight I would be ok with that as I could balast my car up to get the weight distribution just right. And still gain an advantage over the cars that are more portly. Rob Quote
lambo Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 So, does all this mean that it's ok to remove your internal heater if you have a windscreen and are competing in one of the road going classes? Obviously the car would not pass the SVA in that condition, but I'm not sure about an MOT? I would imagine that that would save quite a bit of weight though! Quote

Not sure but I don't think you need a heater for an MOT. Pretty sure an Atom has no heater and that is a road legal car. My car is a Q plate, so maybe the rules may vary as to what is considered road legal for mine, as compared with say a new reg 2007 car. Edited to add My car has now passed three MOT's without a heater. The only issue I have ever had at MOT time was that my hazzard lights did not work with the kill switch turned off. The tester and I agreed that as a Q plate, the car did not require hazzard lights, but if fitted they had to work as per the rules. He gave me a few mins to remove the switch and then passaed the car. Quote
davidgh Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 The orange machine has never had a heater, but passes MOT regularly. Standard SVA procedure (I understand ) is to take the car with an aeroscreen (no heater required) and fit the windscreen+washers+wipers afterwards. Quote
Rob Way Posted April 26, 2007 Author Posted April 26, 2007 OK just for the record for an MOT you can pass WITHOUT If you have a Q plate Reverse light Fog light (as long as you don't have a switch) Indicators (you can use your arms!!) Windscreen (if you have one you need wipers etc) Speedo (I don't have one!!!) Lights (but you can only drive in the day. I'ts true look it up) Heater Hope that helps Rob Quote
lambo Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Hmmm, nothing like a good set of well laid out and understood rules to encourage new people into the sport!! Quote
MartinH Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I would imagine that that would save quite a bit of weight though! About 8kgs, and it removes it from the right area of the car, high up. Took mine out this winter, still leaves my car a hell of a lot heavier than Rob, Steve or Richard. Quote
machin Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Err to me it simply reads carpet, not floor carpet, tunnel carpet or rear bulkhead carpet. just carpet. So I gess you can bin anything that is decribed as carpet. If you see what I mean. ....I thought I'd edited that post as soon as I posted it to say "on re-reading it it only says carpet so Rob I stand corrected".... Just a shame my tunnel panels aren't in very good condition under the carpet otherwise I'd be ripping it out tomorrow! So Rob, where'd you get the helium from then? Can't think where there is 70kg difference in our cars? I guess you'll going to Wiscombe in the morning? See you saturday. Quote
fordy Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 So Rob, where'd you get the helium from then? Can't think where there is 70kg difference in our cars? That is curious, as you both have narrow bodied live axle cars - would have thought they'd be closer than that. Is rob running 13" wheels ?- as the difference between 13"s and 15"s can be some 20Kgs. Quote
Rob Way Posted April 27, 2007 Author Posted April 27, 2007 I am running 13" wheels I think they are about 12kg's with tyres so that may explain some of the difference. It is probably alot of little things adding up not sure what though Oh and yes I will be at wiscombe sat morning. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 My narrow body car also weighed around 520 kg with a X Flow in it. Perhaps Richard's car was made from thicker gause steel or has too much carpet in it 5 speed gearboxes are 12 kg heavier than 4 speed gearboxes plus does Richard have any of the following:- Ali bellhousing Spare wheel carrier Heater Quote
Rob Navin Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 My x-flow narrowed bodied car ended up at 498kg's with fuel. It was running 15' in class E Shame it suffered when I got in it ! Quote
davidgh Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 How are all you Westies so skinny? I thought the Striker was a smaller car, and yet, when we were running in Class A (Screen/Wipers/Washers) we were over 550kg. And no, we weren't bothered by such fripperies as carpets, heaters In current form, we're around 530kg -- not helped by 15" wheels and 205 radial tyres which we can't get under 15kg per corner. Quote
