boris77 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Getting all my questions in in one night! I'm currently running Lumenition electronic ignition (not sure which one). Would there be much of an advantage moving over to use megajolt? Cheers Quote
bill shurvinton Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 A slightly tricky question to answer. If it is the optronic style (so still clockwork timing) then you can expect some or all of the following: Easier starting More stable idle Improved fuel economy enhanced drivability No need to replace dizzy cap and rotor every year or so. You may or may not gain HP, but at least you will be able to optimise the spark mapping for your engine. Quote
Jenko Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Honest answer, is yes, MJ will be better for all threasons Bill mentioned........ Fitting is more hassle....but it is well worth it (although I'm still trying to get mine working :-)).......But the low end is far better than it was, and the car is MUCH smoother...........I would go MJ...... Hammy Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 and... I had a lot of timing scatter from a worn dizzy (40k miles) which made getting timing spot on difficult a problem you won't get with MJ. and... less spitting coughing through your webers and.... most of the parts for a shift light a top purchase Quote
boris77 Posted April 11, 2007 Author Posted April 11, 2007 Looks like it could be a project to start soon then. And as a bonus I have the lumention to fall back on if I stuff it up! Cheers for the replies. Quote

It's not an easy job, however, if you keep at it, it will work, and it will transform your car.......... I think one of the biggest issues is finding a good laptop that will comunicate with the Megajolt - it uses a serial port, that most newer ones don't have, so you have to use a USB converter.... boris77 Posted April 12, 2007 Author Posted April 12, 2007 Can you recommend a USB to serial convertor? I've got one for my Garmin GPS. But it's a tad flaky, I can read from the GPS but can't upload garmin maps to it. So I expect I could have similar issues with megajolt. Quote
Hammy Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 There is some software on the Mj site by a user called "4600"* I've used this and it works with most leads. The new version of MJ -3.2.1 is much better. I've an FTDI chip set lead - search internet fro em., only about £12. Don't buy a lead with the "huge pine" chip set. Join the Megjolt web site forum, good place to start. I can mail the 4600 software if you want it, pm me with your email address - one point it saves the maps in a different format Quote
Mac#1 Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I put off fitting my MJLJ for ages. Bit the bullet in the end - no real issues with the MJLJ itself. Laptop comms were a problem. Fault traced to Nokia and Sony software possibly blocking the comm ports and a potential Java issue. Cured by removing the phone software and running the new V3 MJLJtune software. Setting the comm port was easy using Brays terminal. Brent also gave me a lot of help on the site so well worth registering there. So far only running a basic 2D map and already better than dizzy. will switch to 3D when i get the bike carbs on and possibly go for a RR setup. Great ignition and no turny bits - how good is that?? Bob Green Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Would there be much of an advantage moving over to use megajolt? Absolutely no contest! MegaJolt is night and day superior to Lumenition. Quote
