Whilst the car looks pretty similar in blue and yellow it's a rather different beast these days:

There's not a great deal of the original L16COS left these days, the drivetrain and interior is original as are the rear wings, boot lid, bonnet and scuttle, everything else has been replaced or re-engineered at least once if not two or three times.  Back when Michael had it the car it was a delicate petal, particularly sensitive to cooling which I believe is why he got rid of it.  I'm happy to report that cooling really isn't an issue these days having done track days in 40C heat and even though it's got 60% more power than it had back then!

She's got about 60k on the clock at present (and increasing at about 5k per year) so even as an old lady she's as loopy as ever :)

Yep Michael did have one or two fragile moments, good to hear all is sorted  :D  ;)

The best measure of acceleration is over a standing quarter mile in my opinion.

My best to date is an 11.07 sec at 138mph with road tyres

Looking to improve on that this year with the new engine and lightening the car another 40kg should also help too

Always wanted to stick the turbo out the side like that on mine. One day I'll have the time/money/testicular fortitude to do it.

The power required is proportional to the square of the speed so the maths says that to do 170 you need 28% more power than 150mph.  L16COS currently has about 40% more power than she was running back then so she should still be gearing limited even at 170.

Power required is proportional to the cube of the speed, not the square (it's drag that's proportional to the square of the speed) so the difference between 150 & 170 mph is an extra 45% power required.

I can hit 150 effortless, On a private runway I hit 150 with Me and Muttley in the car with no doors on, Bearing in mind my car weighs 752kg plus an extra 35stones with me and Mutts in it plus I have a windscreen which is as aerodynamic as a brick the engine had plenty left with 460ftlb of torque it's pretty quick  :t-up:

I can vouch for Barry's 150mph speedo indicated  in the USA as I was right behind him at around 145mph & he was pulling away from me however we did run out of road !

Buzz

P.S driving at those speeds with out doors on is a test of your ability to breath and to be hit by American flies which are the size of shanook helicopters really F**king hurt! my mate Steve partially ate 2 of them he looked liked he had a nose cold!
