Was a 3dr XR4x4 Sierra ever available ?

Yes, The MK1 XR4x4 was available in a 3dr version. Only 26 of them were built. I have one of them.

Originally it had the 2.8i engine. Mine has a 2.9 24V BOA from a '95 Scorpio and an original mk1 cosworth bodykit.

So there you have it.

nope never seen one or know of one in this country or any other country ,the 3 door was only ever in 2wd  form ,and the 3 door shell was discontinued before the xr4x4 came out so doubt it was ever used for a 4x4

Once had a 2wd 3dr with a RV8 lump in which was silly fun....

Also Norm, I think yer underselling the 4x4....

Can particularly remember a boys skiing trip to Garmisch sometime in the early '90's.

Lived in Ingolstadt at the time working for Audi.

After a heavy night on the pop I was the only one of us Brit jobbers fit to drive down to Austria early Sunday morning.   We met up with  some German friends and headed off down the autobahn, they were all tooled up with Quattros. My mate Sean's XR4x4 was still shod in summer tyres....

There was a monumental very un_European dump of snow, so severe and sudden that the normally efficient Bavarian snowploughs didn't have time to react and consequently there was fresh deep powder on the A9 autobahn......After some hairy moments and a stop for a brief conflab, 3 of the 4 Quattro Audis headed home leaving us and one Audi to carry on.

A while later we're sat at the bottom of mountain watching our German mates fit their car with snow chains to climb up to the ski resort... Needless to say we had none.

So on summer tyres we set off in front of them.......Never had so much fun flinging a load of hungover Brits around  a car as slithering up that mountain...Momentum is yer friend etc...

Anyway, the XR p****d it, and we got home before the Krauts after a days skiing too...

Whilst it was no Quattro it was a hoot and more capable in s***ty conditions than I could believe...

PS: I can't recall a 3dr XR4x4 but I'm old and any new information that I have to process has to displace old useful stuff on my internal hard drive... :p  :D

I had a 1987 Sierra Sapphire 2.0i Ghia (that engine is now in the Westy) and it was easily quicker than my wifes 2.0 Duratec powered Mk III mondeo - cars are so lardy nowadays.
