Sir Greg Posted March 11, 2007 Author Posted March 11, 2007 They look like Westfield seats to me Cracking job, really looks the part Except for one thing - the seat belt eyes are not fitted correctly. The 'hoop' of each eye should face the direction of the seat belt, IYSWIM, or in other words, turned through 90 deg to how you have them at the moment Shims should be placed under each eye so that they are tight in the correct position Hi Stu........correct about the seats. I realised that the eye bolts were facing the wrong way and was getting pi**ed off that they wouldn't tighten and stop where they should have. I hadn't thought about shimming them to be honest. What do you recommend? Would plain steel washers of the correct size do the job? Quote
stu999 Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Plain washers will do the trick, if you can find suitable thicknesses to do the job. I spent an age trying to sort mine with washers, as most washers I tried merely placed the eyes in virtually the same position as they were before, albeit with less turns. Willans (used to) supply shim steel to facilitate eye bolt alignment IIRC.. Quote

Lurksalot Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 It wouldn't be difficult to calculate given the thread pitch of the eyes Quote
James Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi Greg, The car looks stunning! nice work! you have put a huge amount of attention to detail into the car and its payed off, a stunning example of the breed IMO. moomin Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Sir, Do you have any more info/pics on how the half doors are attached? Sorting out (possibly fabricating my own) half doors is near the top of my list of things to do. moomin Quote
Sir Greg Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 Well done lovely car Hi James......thanks very much for the comments.. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics of your rear lamp conversion too. I've only seen them against a blue background and I'm interested to see what they look like on your yellow car... Quote

It shows some detail of how I fitted the half doors. Previous post Also, here are a couple of pics that show how they are secured to the body. Hope it helps... Quote
spm Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Ooh Ta ! That was me who asked in your original post, thanks for that. Si Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 If you go down a breakers, most seatbelt anchor bolts have very thin crinkle washers between them and the stepped bushes that are fitted on the bolt. As they are thin, a few of those should do the trick for you. John PS - agree with the rest. Nice looking motor. Quote
Sir Greg Posted March 12, 2007 Author Posted March 12, 2007 Ooh Ta ! That was me who asked in your original post, thanks for that. Si No probs Si, As I said in the previous post, the trickiest bit is to remove the felt material from the inside of the doors and then cut the inner plastic fillet to shape whilst leaving the outer vinyl intact. I left about a two inch overlap of vinyl and wrapped it under the outer edge of the loosened dash panel. If you just go very carefully as far as measuring and take your time with a sharp stanley knife you'll be fine I'm sure. As for folding the bottom under you'll find it much easier if you heat the whole thing up with a hairdrier first. It all becomes much more flexible then. I had only used 3 screws to fix it to the body but decided to add some more to make it even more secure. PM me if I can be of any more assistance.. Quote

Jenko Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 It's back to taunt me again......I fell in love with this car when it was up for sale on this forum!, and now IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!.......... VERY, VERY NICE..................................... Quote
moomin Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 QUOTE Hope it helps Thanks Greg. It gives me some food for thought - I have the full Caged cage too, which makes it even more awkward (and should make entry/exit entertaining!). Plus I would like to achieve some sort of water seal between door and body, be able to attach the tonneau to the top edge of the half door, and make them out of GRP. Not much of a challenge then. moomin Quote

VERY, VERY NICE..................................... Hi Jenko........thanks for the comments, very much appreciated.. Ian Perry who built the car did a fantastic job to be honest. The quality and attention to detail under the surface is a credit to him. I just wanted to take the "canvas" he had given me and try to improve on it. From all the nice comments I'm sure I've succeeded. Even more important to me than the cosmetic stuff were the upgrades to the brakes and suspension as I wanted it to go, handle and stop as well as possible. As a package I've just about got the car I would have built had I chosen to go down that route. Although..........a close ratio box and another 50bhp are already on the list for next winter........
