KerryS Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 In looking at various sat nav systems, it seems that destinations can be input at UK postcode, address or a point on the map. I though that you could also input UK OS grid reference or lat/long but I cannot seem to confirm this from the websites I have looked at, but if I can't find what I want on a website quickly I lose intrest so they probably say it somewhere I am thinking the usual suspects TomTom, Garmin, Navman etc Quote
scott beeland Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Navman F series is what you need mate. Loads of user easy features and a PROPER bargain I've got an F20 and I'd be lost without it Or if it's to be used in the westy aswell there arte some crackin bargains to be had on the waterproof tom tom rider Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Tom Tom can be set with lats/longs for destinations works a treat when planning in advance and used in conjunction with Google earth even got the lat/long of my parking spot logged in at work I've used Tom Tom for a few years now and found it excellent. Have it on my PDA and a 710 Quote
Boney Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Owdo, got navman f40, take picture of location with in built camera and save this as your favourite, click on picture for your location. cheesy but I like it Boney Quote
KerryS Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 ALDI!£119. Read posts? Yup! But it only states accepting postcodes etc not OS grid refs Quote
Major Stare Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Get the recent Auto Express (on shelves till Wednesday), they have done a 4 page review on SatNavs. If you at Curborough on Tuesday, have a go with my Nuvi. Quote
Ian Podmore Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 As Mark says Tom Tom definately has longs / lats ability. It's on my latest version on the PDA, and also on the stand alone TomTom units. Quote
KerryS Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 If you at Curborough on Tuesday, have a go with my Nuvi. Cheers John. Am first reserve but may take a "lunch break" down there Quote
Derby Allen Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 if it does FULL postcodes then what more could you possibly want, this will more or less get you outside a house door, first SatNav i had only used a part of the postcode which was useless, full postcode is all i need and works everytime. i go to atleast 10 appointments every week anywhere in the country and it never fails, my opinion anyway Quote
KerryS Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Sorry about this but some of the places we go with the caravan, postcodes are pants as they cover a large area. OS grid ref is what I want Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Tom Tom Halfords had a special on-line offer on the 710 at around £250 something - can also be used for phone hands free via bluetooth and ipod hook-up etc etc etc Kerry you'll be able to compare Nuvi and Tom Tom on Tuesday see which suits you sir Quote
ChrisG Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 even got the lat/long of my parking spot logged in at work Do you regularly forget where your particular work carpark spot is then Mark? Agree with Kerry, postcodes are OK in built up areas but can be quite a way off in rural locations, a couple of times Ive put in postcodes for getting to trackdays and if you followed TomTom to the last metre instead of being sensible and following the signs when you're within a couple of miles, you could be a good mile or two away from where you actually want to be. I'm about to move into a house (hopefully) on a new estate. The postcode doesn't exist on my satnav - CoPilot Live 6. It also does lat/long. According to the blurb on their website, references are updated from the NAVTEQ mapping company (?) every few years... At a cost, no doubt Quote
a4gom Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Re tom tom how do you enter grid ref etc, can't find the option on mine since I went to version 5. All I get now is home, favorite, address, recent destination, poi, postcode, point on map, city centre and poi in city~?? Quote
