Norman Verona Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Zoso, I'll PM you as well, just watching a good game of football. V8, no money yet. It's not sold till I've got the money. But I've been thinking about that. We could get a nice grass track for quads or carts. We'll see, need a bit of time to recover some money first. Quote
chazpowerslide Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 We have loads of cars and track, I've been collecting for ages. We have about 40 meters or track in the old style and the later plug in transformer, chicanes, cross overs, lap counter, the whole shebang. We have in the car department. 2 x 428 Cobras. 2 x Caterhams. 2 x Minies. 2 x Gulf GT 40 (my fave) 1 x Porshe 917 1 x Lola T70 1 x Ferrari 512LM 1 x Ferrari 512LM Berlinetta 2 X Escort Cosworths 1 x Porshe 935 1 x Jag XK220 1 x Audi A4 Touring Car 1 X Vectra Touting Car 2 x Porsh 911s (80's style) 2 x Porsh 956s Most of the "unusual" cars like the 60's and 70's Le Mans stuff is from a Spanish company called "FLY" and they are very good quality, very detailed, reasonably priced and run on the same track as the Scalextric cars. You can buy all the track as individual bits and most dealers have track plans free that you can follow to do the 4, 6 and 8 lane stuff. BEWARE it can get expensive........................ Chaz. tyrone Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Norm, I've just come over from the dark side to cool down. I don't have a digital set up, so I can't comment. But, I do have both 'Classic' and 'Sport' track. My advice would be stock up on as much 'Classic' track as you can. It needs to be in good nick, the tendency is for the metal connectors to break off or for the track to have a distinct bow in. The first will lead to dead sections of track, the second will screw up the performance of the newer cars. The problem with the 'Sport' track is that it comes apart very easily, which is not insurmountable if you're creating a permanent layout, but the biggets problem for me is the track is very smooth and the Fly cars (mentioned above) simply cannot get their power down. The Fly cars are absolutely brilliant but too expensive to waste on a track for punters, because they will get trashed. If I was you, I'd build a 4 lane classic track in homage to Le mans and run sports cars rather than F1's or rally cars. If you want help, Fletch and I are your men. Quote
highwayman Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I have the new digital setup . Its much more fun with lane changing and all the race modes. Its cheaper to buy boxed sets too when you first start off Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 Hello Tyrone, was going to email you. I've got some frames for those cartoons that you sent. I'm going to put them in the gites and was thinking of £40.00 each, What do you think? I think I'm going to do as you suggest but get some Catrhams of different colours. May also get other Lotus models. I'll start watching Ebay for track and build up as much as I can at the right price. It's about time you got over here and saw your work in the flesh. Fletch keeps threatening to visit as well. Quote
Norman Verona Posted March 10, 2007 Author Posted March 10, 2007 V8, HM has just seen your suggestion. She's already called the divorce lawyer! To be honest whilst I did think about it one of the main features of this place is the peace and quiet. It would be a pity to spoil that. On the other hand.................. Quote
tyrone Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 Norm, I'll send you an email re. the cartoons, I don't think they are mine!! For casual users like your guests, definitely adopt the KISS principle. 4 lane classic will be fine. You can pick up 7's off ebay for £20 a pop, less if you are lucky. Spares are cheap and upgradeitis is not an option. Quote

Chris Elworthy Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 upgradeitis is not an option Want a bet! Where's Nick Algar when you need him.... Vac formed Westfield Body Kits for RC Chassis and for converting Scalextric Caterhams ?? Go on, you know it makes sense. To answer earlier question about braking at the Wellingborough Track, the way it works is when you lift off the trigger instead of it just being dead it is dead shorted which turns the motor into a generator and therefore resists turning, The conductor they use on the track is copper so magnets cannot help you. The "professional" racers there had power packs with their trigger units which have; wait for this........ Adjustable traction control Adjustable braking effect And what is worse they are fiddling with this during an 8 second 120ft lap. Best lap at our event was 14.88 seconds by Kevin with a standard Scalextric DTM Astra Quote
tyrone Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 OK, upgradeitis is still 'possible' but you won't need to remortgage the house. Check out the tuning sites it's a real eye opener on what can be done to a 'stock' car. Wellingborough! I still have nightmares about that place. I love slot car racing and I actually thought I was bl**** good at it until I turned up there. They take it very seriously, one guy even had a Snap On tool chest for all his kit. I turned up with Fly T70 and all he said was 'You thinking of racing that?', cheers mate. I went two or three times before the humiliation got too much. The final straw was the same blokes 4 year old kid beating me. Quote
