I would much rather take the opinion of crusty old retired scientists and politicians who have nothing to gain or loose than the word of the same but younger and currently employed.

Wunsch is 66! They don't come moer crusty than that. Thrusting schientist who were last active 10 years ago is relying a bit on old fact wouldn't you say?

Stop hiding behind the "they are paid to say this", Do you think governments pay 99% of the researchers to bend the facts?

Nah, he's still employed by a business, doesn't make him independant and 66 isn't that old  ;)

10 year old data shouldn't cause a problem should it as GW has apparantly been around since the industrial revolution and the climate can't change much in 10 years.  If it does then we're well and truly done for  :D

10years? 100 is enormously fast for a climate. Now doesn't that put the recent heat up in perspective?

gtc2005.gif

to me that shows that temp from 1910 to 1940 changed as much as 1975 to 2005 so what happen there why did the temps drop in the early 1900's and 1940's.  Maybe we need a world war to cool things down a bit or could it be that measurement is much better  now?

That's very interesting, because during any war the wheels of industry would be working mega overtime to provide weapons, armament, ammunition, supplies etc. 24/7, thus you have shown that the increase in smoke and CO2 has infact worked as a barrier / filter to block out the full effects of the suns rays and dropped the earth temparature.

I heard somewhere that after 9/11 when all air traffic had been grounded for a couple of days, that a 2 degree increase in world temparature had been recorded! I had dismissed this previously!

Now it has all become clear, George Bush does believe in reducing global temparatures by starting lots of wars.

Now look here you lot. I've watched this argument rage to and fro. I have just proved definitively and beyond wuastion that global warming is taking place.

I went out this morning to cut the grass. It was very sunny but chilly. At 4pm this afternoon I had to stop because it was so hot I thought I was going to pass out.

Therefore, I conclude that during the day it got warmer. I am reliably informed this happened all over the world between 8am and 4pm local time.

Ergo Global warming.

Now, can I get on with my beer in peace and quiet?  :D

No, it's such a small sample of data compared the the life of the planet that it's impossible to take any realistic conclusions from it.  It's like saying that your lawn is being killed off because you happened to look out one morning and it didn't look as good as it did yesterday - but you forget the grass has been there 40 years and looked great last summer.

Surely as a scientist you can agree that the number of data samples we have is in no way sufficient to detarnine the state of te planet ?

We don't have data stretching back far enough - but the GW advocates have taken data that appears to fit and made it look as if the planet is warming up.

It's all a big con, I don't believe a word of it  :D

Well the independent article with prof Wunsch opinion at least tells you not to believe Martin Durkin.

The vast majority of scientists are convinced that manmade emissions are adding to the warming up of the earth (which is undisputed)

I don't dispute that the earth is actually getting warmer but I find it suprisng that no-one has mentioned that biggest reason is that the sun is pulling our planet closer towards it every day by a natural process of gravity.

I guess we need some clever nuclear process to fire the earth back out into space. :D  :p

Incidently did I hear correctly that Skynet has been launched? We are all doomed and the terminators will soon be arriving   :xmas:  :suspect:

It's a very good point, as we have been putting stuff into space making the planet lighter so it will get closer to the sun.

Humans are parasites, I suggest a cull (like they do with pigeons and wild deer). If it's good enough for widelife who are destroying the surrounding habitat it's good enough for chavs, gypo's and maybe the oxygen thieving scum seen on the news with 10 children and no job (and possibly the odd politician) :D

In fact they could start with that fat kid on the TV last week, he must generate a fair bit of CO2 and methane, closely followed by his mother who likes to smoke in bed, genrating deadly smoke clouds  :p

:t-up:  :t-up:

I reckon it's down to Coca Cola. More and more people keep opening those cans and bottles containing that nasty deadly CO2 gas.

Sue um i say, sue their pants off

As you can see from your chart after the war people have gone mad for it up to the present date where Coca Cola consumption has rocketed.

Looks like people are getting bored with Global Warming. They keep calling it climate change now. :bangshead:

I appreciate what people are saying on both sides of the fence. It's true we could act now to try and slow the progress of climate change and protect future generations.I have thought long and hard about the impact we and or nature may be having on our beautiful planet.I wrestle with my conscience every time i get into my car etc..

On the other hand though, it brings the daffodils out early and they are lovely and yellowy and stuff.

I for one would willingly pay twice as much for petrol and holidays abroad. :)

I think it's only right that the extra money collected go in to a huge wage increase for MP's and also up the dole money for the poor unfortunates who cannot find work. :(

My heart bleeds for drug addicts, poor things, I think there drugs should be payed for by the hard working people like me. :)

I can already feel it getting colder as my hard earned money is spent in this wise and thoughtful way. :D

Must go now. :(

White van has turned up outside the house. :(  :(

Put me down.. :p  ow that hurts :p ...Mmmm nice straight jacket....have you got one in corduroy? :xmas:  :xmas:  :xmas:  :xmas:

Must admit I've thought twice about adding a comment to this debate? Well what the hell

Anyway I used to work for a long time for a large broadcasting company and the journalists used to spend many hours grinding out a story interviewing people and really digging around for the truth in something. Nowadays they all sit in front of a computer screen and surf the net and believe everything that appears in front of them. The headline or sounbite is everything. It is really scary as we believe the cr*p they churn out. There used to be courses at said company that tried to teach caution over material gleaned from the internet so it is a real issue. The whole GW debate shows this in spades when common sense tells you that mans impact on the environment is microscopic in terms of the earths history. But every major weather event hurricanes, floods and hotter summers is blamed on cheap flights to Tenerrife !! I remember not that long ago when derision was hurled at two scientists claiming the earths surface was made up of plates that moved causing earthquakes and the formation of mountain ranges. The point is they challenged the common view which is what good science is all about. Read this http://www.weatheraction.com/index.p....emid=36 where Piers Corbyn is challenging the IPCC and has written to David Milliband and others to highlight the serious omission in Final Draft IPCC Summary For Policy Makers, (‘The Physical Science Basis’). Their Summary For Policy Makers ('The Physical Science Basis') issued on 2nd Feb shows a graph (SPM -1) of CO2 levels over the last 10,000 years but does not show corresponding temperatures.  We are calling on Minister David Miliband, Govt Science adviser Sir David King and Sir Martin Rees, President of the Royal Society, to insist that the IPCC end this cover-up and publish the measured temperature graph alongside the CO2 graphs in the Final Summary for Policy Makers at the full IPCC meeting in Bangkok on 4th May 2007
