spence
Have you not considered that great big Yellow thing in the sky. It's called the sun and is rather hot. When there are more hot spots.....surprise surprise the earth warms up. When there are less hot spots surprise surprise the earth cools. FACT as proved by Science. Graphs can be manipulated i.e. Scales. You have to look over long periods of time and the whole picture. Not snap shots with different scaling. These mean nothing and can only be used to bolster propaganda and nothing else.
geelhoed
I can't believe one documentary can influence you lot so much! The big yellow thing heats up the earth but if we keep that heat on our rock a little longer it gets warmer. Why do you sleep under a blanket? peterg
I didn't need to see this one documentary to believe what I already thought about all this...... it wasn't conducted from a layman's point of view, every single person interviewed and quoted in the programme was a vastly experienced scientist who disagreed with the recent sensationalist "we've got to stop using our cars/planes etc" stories being released by governments with their own agendas you really ought to try and watch it before quoting stuff as I think you'll find most if not all the people featured on it are rather more qualified than you (with all due respect etc)

peter pan
Its not even one documentary. but many which show AGW to be a construct. Some time ago the BBC put out a planet chaos series., In one they cited the destruction of a civilisation, shown in the Tablets of Lament of Urr. which was destroyed by an El nino event.which was caused by ......................you've guessed, global warming! the only problem was that this occurred 4000 years ago, long before mankind had developed heavy industry/cars/planes etc etc. So what caused the global warming they were trying to depict as the problem then??? They then had the audacity to state that the Earth could go spinning out of mans control!? goodness me SINCE WHEN has man controlled the weather?? we cannot even understand it. If we do control the weather, could someone please point me towards the weather controller person, as I am down to be painting my shed next tuesday, and would quite like a warm sunny day to do it in. AR1961
Geelhoed: "Close approximation to the truth" sounds a lot like "a guess" to me! And you are right I choose NOT to believe a guess!
lukeyboy
Sorry, your all wrong.... I still believe it's cow's farts that are destroying the ozone layer and causing global warning!! People should know by now it's easer for a government to pass legislation and increse taxes if the public are scared, constantly flash facts and figures of doom and gloom under their noses and tell them enough times they will believe anything. I agree to some degree that CO2 will play some role in global warming, but I'm not about to role over and believe everything I'm told. Why does technology seem to move on at warp speed, yet we still haven't found a suitable / viable alternative to oil power - probably because there's a s**t load of money to be made out of it before they release something else which will make them some more money! Maybe because the big oil companies are buying up new technology / patents and sitting on them until there ready? You would think that water power may have been the best idea splitting H2O and getting hydrogen / oxygen (that takes care of the melting ice caps)... no wait there a lot of water about and it would be hard to put tax and it Going back 14 years ago when I was doing Physics they were saying then that solar and wind just cannot generate the power we need, nor can you really store it up..... nuclear is the way forward, if you don't want CO2, but people are so worried of Chenobyl Mk2, radioactive waste or terrorist attacks. I personally think the world will just keep on revolving and do what it want's. It might be selfish, but I don't give a toss if London gets flooded, plus I'd like a bit more warmth. I don't have any kids and I will be long gone when it really kicks in. Personally I think the world is a f#'ked up place these days - Get Tony to sort out crime, get scrotes off the street, stop handing out my hard earned tax money to work dodgers and the endless influx of migrants (in general look after the average hard working law abiding man) and I'll be the first one to run to the recycling centre and grown my own cabbage... until then he can sod off! Boomy
Talking about the money side of things, i had a chuckle at what one of those guys said last night on the program. It was something along the lines of.. "If i tell them i wish to study squirrels and how many nuts they eat, i won't get any funding at all.Suggest i wish to study squirrels and the effects their nut eating habbits have on the climate and there is a very good chance i will get the money i want. Gromit
QUOTE I understand that you laymen have trouble distinquishing between the truth and hoaces but I assure you CO2 isn't. Since we`re only laymen, does that mean we have to roll over and accept, unequivically, everything that we are told. I for one am starting to smell at rat with what been banted around recently under the GW banner. Remember the old addage, "How can you tell when a politicians lieing? You can see his lips moving." Theres a lot of people who have jumped on the GW bandwagon over the past few years to further their causes, and not all of them are for our benefit. Darkspeed
Its all about public perception and control. Fact one - we are not energy self sufficient - much the same as the rest of the developed world - we have used our own natural enrgy resouce up and are now dependent upon "others" for our economic stability - politically this is unacceptable. To redress this balance we must reduce our dependancy on fossil fuels and invest in alternative engergy souces. As is human nature we donothing without being forced and the only method the government has of control of out fossil fuel use is by taxing it and putting up the costs - they need a valid political reasoning behind this - GW. There may or not be scientific proof behind the causes of the green house effect - I dont think that its of any real interest to the politicians - however as it can be spun to blame for GW and hence be used to reduce use of fossil fuels then great play will be made of it. The government will not be funding methods of CO2 reduction in the atmosphere because any method that will allow the continued use of imported oil and gas is politically unacceptable. its not about whats causing the earth to warm its about access to energy - its what all the recent actions of the UK and USA have been about. Its why the Americans spend all thier money on Middle east stability methods instead of scientific methods of CO2 removal. Dont get me started on that oldest of all human behaviour controls religion. lukeyboy
If anyone on here is paying into a pension fund it's very likely that a large amount of the pension fund is invested in companies such as shell / BP... so in that case please buy more oil so I have a good pension and retire early. What made me listen recently is Russia and it's hand on the gas valve. As Darkspeed says, we are not energy sufficient and buy power in from Europe, especially France. We could get robbed blind!!! I was surprised to see how much of Frances power is supplied by nuclear also and they've not burst into flames yet! I currently have a backup plan for when everywhere floods, I will move to my acre of land on the moon.... I knew it would come in handy one of these days (drunken purchase which seemed a good idea at the time)

V8grunt
I think it's time for you all to listen to..... "When the man comes around" By Mr Johnny cash..... I ain't got the "teknoligee" to put it on here. But it would be nice if someone could! AND..... If you have the "teknoligee" to do that.
