Bazzer Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hi All I know a lot of people on here are into mountain biking so I thought I would ask a quick question on here. Has anyone used a Rockshock Lyrik U turn fork at all. I have Fox 36 Vanilla's on my Orange Patriot 66 Excel at the moment (I spec'd the Vanilla's as I was not keen on the 36 TALAS) There are great very plush and stiff and great when pointing downhill. Problem comes when climbing, even when sat on the nose of the saddle with weight forward steering is a challenge. So I want a fork with similair performance but travel adjustable. So am looking at the Rockshock Lyrik U turn which should give me spring plushness with travel adjust. But before I shell out £500+ of my hard earned I thought I would ask if anyone had any experience of them. Cheers Bazzer Quote
joff69 Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hiya Bazzer I had a pair of Rockshox Duke XC U-turn on my 04 Marin Rocky Ridge and cannot fault them. Can't say I noticed any particular problems when climbing. One thing I would say about them, the adjustment from Full travel to short travel involved having to rotate the dial on the top of the fork several times. I.E always seemed to take awhile and possibly 3 full turns (maybe more) which did seem a bit of a pain. Having said that, I'd certainly have another pair. But like everything else, once you are used to it, it's ok. HTH Joff Quote
Bazzer Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 Thanks for that Joff They do the Lyrik in what they call the 2 Step which drops the fork right down with one click. Unfortunatly they only do that in an air fork rather than a spring. Bazzer Quote
joff69 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I take it that you prefer Spring to Air? Have you looked at the current Marzocchi range? I had the old Z3 lites on a GT Tempest and again really liked them. But, I had upgraded from an old pair of RST forks though so a big piece of sponge would have been an upgrade! Quote
Darren B Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Coincidentaly there was a review in What MTB last month: Basically they commented that it's a sturdy fork, some reports of packing down on long descents and some comments that switch from 115-160mm is too big without the ability to fine tune. Summary: Lyric is a solid fork, it tracks well, has smooth, well controlled damping and doesn't mind being bashed. Teething troubles aside, the Lyric is a great choice for riders looking to build a go-anywhere all mountain bike. Quote
sedsy Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I ride a Mongoose Teocali Super which has rockshock pike 454 which are the absolute dogs HTH Quote

Interesting I probably have that article then :-) I would go for the U turn coil version thats adjustable between 115 and 160 rather than the 2 step that is either 115 or 160. Cheers Bazzer Edited to add which month is it in Feb ? Quote
