steve_m Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 but tell me how would YOU stop the congestion on our roads?? Interesting that nobody has actually answered Buzz's guestion...... Didn't see that question, wood for the trees and all that. Ash has some good suggestions - more carrot and less stick wouldn't be a bad start, if their intentions are genuine. How about starting now, to make public transport useable by the people who use it. Other countries manage it - how about making it go to the places people want to go ? Currntly most busses terminate at a town centre bus station... very useful if you work at the bus station or the local council which is usually located in the town centre too but not any use to people who work on trading estates/industrial parks on the outskirts of a town. How about making trains coming out of London longer ? There's loads of rolling stock that could be used to make them longer and therefore take more passengers. Half the time I try to get a train back from town there's only standing space, if that. How about smaller busses - more like 9 seater minibusses that buzz around and take you whereever you want to go, along a roughly pre-determined map, it doesn't stick to a ridgid route but can make minor detours to take you home/to work. Could be electric/E85 powered. How about getting rid of the large double decker busses that never seem to carry more than 6 people and replace them with 9-15 seater mini-busses. Quote
