michaelcoombs Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I have an R reg, Audi A4 avant 1.9 tdi with about 110,000 on the clock and its started using oil. I've put in a litre and a half in the last 10,000 miles and it belches out a lot of smoke if you boot it. I'm not sure if this is normal diesel smoke or burning engine oil.... Is this about normal for a tdi of this age/milage? thanks I should add that i drive it quite gently (normally well over 60-mpg) and predominately long motor-way and A-road use. Quote
JeffC Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Divant panic Audi diesels *do * have an appetite for oil.. In 10,000 miles 1 litre is normal , If you do a lot of motorway higher revving mileage they will use a fair bit more the smoke you reffer to will be a build up.. give it a good blast in 3rd gear a few times and it will dissapear.. On the rare occasion I drive my dads 130 tdi It looks like there is a fire on the bypass when I hoof it you need fog lights on behind Quote
michaelcoombs Posted February 16, 2007 Author Posted February 16, 2007 thanks... thats ok then. was a bit concerned as when i got rid of my last petrol golf it had done 180,000 since its last survive and was still going strong and using very little oil. Quote
itguy Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 My new A4 140tdi has used 4ltrs of oil in the first 16k of its life.. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Yep, had a A4 Tdi once that had a thirst, 1 litre almost exactly every 7,000 miles. Quote

potster Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Father in law has a Vecta DTI which uses upto 1 litre per 1,000/1,200 miles according to Vauxhall this is within their tollerances Quote
