Audi TDi

I have an R reg, Audi A4 avant 1.9 tdi with about 110,000 on the clock and its started using oil. I've put in a litre and a half in the last 10,000 miles and it belches out a lot of smoke if you boot it. I'm not sure if this is normal diesel smoke or burning engine oil.... Is this about normal for a tdi of this age/milage?

thanks  :)

I should add that i drive it quite gently (normally well over 60-mpg) and predominately long motor-way and A-road use.

Divant panic Audi diesels *do * have an appetite for oil.. In 10,000 miles 1 litre is normal , If you do a lot of motorway higher revving mileage they will use a fair bit more  ;)

the smoke you reffer to will be a build up.. give it a good blast  in 3rd gear a few times and it will dissapear.. On the rare occasion I drive my dads 130 tdi It looks like there is a fire on the bypass  when I hoof it  you need fog lights on behind    :D

was a bit concerned as when i got rid of my last petrol golf it had done 180,000 since its last survive and was still going strong and using very little oil.  :D

Yep, had a A4 Tdi once that had a thirst, 1 litre almost exactly every 7,000 miles.

Father in law has a Vecta DTI which uses upto 1 litre per 1,000/1,200 miles  :suspect: according to Vauxhall this is within their tollerances  :0
