Liam Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Sorry to be a numpty but I have never had to do all this. My son is endeavouring to join the broadband club. His house has a phone line which he has just activated for which he had to take out a package deal with BT for £16.95 (£12 line + £3.95 free eves and weekend calls). He does not have cable in his location in deepest Devon, oo arrgh. The question now is...which BB supplier to go for. My own supplier is PlusNet, for which I have no complaints whatsoever, and they do a package, including line rental, for £25.99. So presumably they pay the BT line rental direct to BT??. This would just leave him to pay the BT call package. Am I on the right track so far? Is this a good deal? I have had a search around some of the BB review sites and quite a lot of the household name suppliers, while cheap as chips, have fairly chequered feedback comments. As this is a new venture for him, I would prefer that it was a good experience, not a bad one as Dad will inevitably have to sort out. So all you gurus out there...what's the craic Quote
a4gom Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I too am with plusnet, I have the £25.99 package and pay nothing to bt whatsoever, this included free evening and weekend calls. He will have to check with BT though, he may have entered into a contract to pay £16.95 to them for say 12 months to recieve free re connection/activation. Until very recently I have been very happy to recommend plus net and have done so and recieved a discount on mine in the process. I am however having some problems at the moment, keeps loosing connection, this may be my equipment or my line? I'm not sure as I have been too busy recently to start trying to work it out but until its sorted I won't be recommending them just in case. Are you aware BT now own plus net? Quote
peterg Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 We were with PlusNet for 3 years but decided to change when we moved down to Hampshire as I felt that they were slipping in terms of service....and they were about to be taken over by BT We went with Zen Internet after getting good reports about them from several places and we're very glad we did, their service has been exemplary, their tech support were very helpful when we were having some problems with our wi-fi setup and in addition to this, the contract is only for 1 month at a time so if your circumstances/requirements change there's no penalty Not the cheapest at £17.99/month but I'm really happy with them Zen 8000 Lite Quote
langy Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Liam, my elder brother started an ISP in Exeter 12 years ago and is still going strong, so it'd be rude if i didn't mention Eclipse Internet (which is now part of the Kingston Communication group) Sean Quote
Asterix Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Orange..."free" Broadband up to 8Mb (depends on your line), no apparent traffic limit yet, as long as you take a moby phone contract with them worth >£30 per month (which mine was anyway) Quote
