Compressors. What to look for

Recommended Posts

I've done a search but couldn't find much. I'm thinking of buying a compressor to go in the new garage and I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for.

It will be used for general garage things (blowing things out/off), inflating tyres, etc.

It will not be used for spraying or shot blasting.

What sort of specs should I be looking for.

Budget is ~£150.

TIA

8 cfm is the sort of figure to go for you need more for blasting some sanding application. you can get one from Machine mart for that sort of price

if all you want to do is blow up some tyres and blow through hoses/pipes etc with the occasional spin of an air wrench then you could wait for the next Aldi offer, I got one last year for £50 and it's done all of the above  ;)

I originally bought a small compressor to do all the jobs you mention and it was very good at it.

But I found that once I'd had it a while I wanted to do other things with it, like sandblasting, impact wrench, nail gun, etc etc etc and the small one wasn't up to the job.

So I bought a second hand Broom Wade monster compressor from someone on this site (£125).  It's been fantastic and does everything without ever running out of puff.  Only downside was that it really was too big for the garage so I've now housed it in a shed next to the garage and ran the cables thru the wall
