waggledance Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 hi every body is an s.v.a as bad as i think it will be ? what do they check for Quote
bazz24 Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 hi, i'm also worried about it so your not alone. i think they check for sharp edges that may hurt you and others, also emisions/tyres/how its been put together and lots of other stuff. i dont know much about it myself but im sure another member will be along in a mo i hope this helps even if its a little bit Quote
Boomy Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=39875 There was some stuff mentioned in the FAQ if that helps.. A search may dig up a few results too Quote
stewart pickles Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 gav/glen if it fails you will know what you need to do if its a pass your away stop bl**** worrying IT WILL PASS Quote
Westy1700 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Loads of stuff on here to search for and plenty of articles around the web.. As you build the car always think SVA in the back of your mind as you fit each component - think safety/logical/neat/protected.....if you can b******* yourself up on it when you build it it will probably fail...generally its all about how the car is presented and westfields do have a good deal of respect from most test centres compared with other brands. get along to a local club and look at recently finished cars that have been tested and talk to owners and if possible ask someone local who's been through it to cast an eye over your car as you approach the big day.. HTH Quote
waggledance Posted February 13, 2007 Author Posted February 13, 2007 not worried too much because im one of the lucky ones who has had so much help and time on hand from a good mate of mine through out the build i.e stu . {who i have every faith in} i was just wondering on other people thoughts on good and bad points on the test as my blade is nearly there . Glen H Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 if its been built with standard interior trim and bodywork and the full SVA protection kit from Westfield has been fitted you can't go far wrong. Quote
jonansett Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 It all depends on where you go, and what tester you have, and what mood they are in. Mine failed 3 times and i thought it waould sail through. The emmisions were hard to get right on my blade (1993 engine). The noise was hard to get down using the standerd westfield silencer. Try and run it it somewhere as my kit straight from westfield braked too much on the rears and had a bit of a prob sorting that out- so make sure the fronts lock up before the backs! Cover EVERYTING with covers, so nothing is sharp- tie all the wires up behind the dash, fit all three mirrors, make sure you can prove things like seatbelts and tyres all have E marks on them- you may need letters from westfield. And dont be dissapointed if it fails Quote
stu999 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Assuming you had 'proof of age' for the engine to verify pre 95 status, a blade (or in fact, virtually *any* bike engine) should pi55 the emissions test. Something seriously wrong if it struggled... Quote
jonansett Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 yup had proof of age, was setup by pdq rolling roaded etc and failed the first sva! i think it had something to do with the stupid guy who first tested the car, i dont think he could work the machine properly and had to rev the poor thing for ages coz he kept mucking up! If i remember rightly when the hcs when down the co2s went up and the other way round. Quote
stu999 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Mmm. 'Revving for ages' seems to indicate it had a cat test. If the engine was deemd to be pre Aug 95 it should of been tested at idle speed only - the max limits being 3.5% CO, and 1200ppm HC. If the the CO was within limits but HC was exceeded at idle, the revs are then brought up to a fast idle for 30secs and the HC *only* re-assessed. Quote
jonansett Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 yes it did have a cat test, but that was only because the dum ass couldent work out how to by pass that on the machine! So he had to do the cat test first- Which it obviously failed, and threw in the bin and then do the bit of the test which he needed. He was also to fat to fit in the car so i have to do all of the braking on the rollers, rev for noise test, etc! Quote
