hogman Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Just read in this Saturdays paper that Speed Camera Detectors are now illegal to use, or even have in your car! You will get fined and points for it just being inside your car!! Although it did say the ones were they dont actually detect but are based on GPS known positions are still legal! The government has really lost it! Well I for 1 will continue to use mine, sod em! Quote
Kevin Wood Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Perhaps I'd better drive with my eyes closed in future, in case I unwittingly use one of them to detect a speed camera. Kevin Quote
rm163603 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Radar and laser detectors are carp anyway. The police use laser mainly these days. All a laser detector does is inform you of your prosecution early... It doesn't give you any chance to react. Laser jammers are worth having but potentially you could get prosecuted for perverting the course of justice so again not a viable option really. Personally I rely on the fact that all the money has been put into speed cameras thus making the policeman with a hairdryer a very rare sight these days. Anyway I live down south so speeding is almost impossible anyway Quote
langy Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I will carry on using my GPS based / laser detector, cos i only got it yesterday Quote
higgsti Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 the way round laser jammers ive been told is to have electric garage doors or gates because the emit the same frequency or did Quote
Boomy Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 The government has really lost it! Just read in a paper my woman brought back from London that two letter bombs have now been sent to two companies involved with cameras and congestion charges. Could this be the start of something i wonder? I said the public would probably riot at some point due to how thousands of us are being punished and fined for absolutely no reason. As it said in the article, there is a war going on against motorists, so they are starting to take revenge and are fighting back. Quote
Liam Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Not quite yet IMHO. The Road Safety Act 2006 enabled laws against:- "speed assessment equipment detection device" means a device the purpose, or one of the purposes, of which is to detect, or interfere with the operation of, equipment used to assess the speed of motor vehicles." to be inroduced but it requires a Statutory Instrument to be drawn up for this to happen. Section 26 (mobile phone use) comes in 27th Feb. Some other sections may be inroduced "in the spring" Sir Humphrey Quote
Norman Verona Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 I thought they were illegal until a high court judge, on appeal, said thay weren't. He concluded that detecting a radar/laser beam was not against the law. Anyway my radar/laser detector would go off dozens of times on even a short journey and I never once got warned of a speed trap with it. Traffic light, garage doors, resevoir monitors and loads of other signals which I never worked out. But never a speed trap. Quote
Richgm Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 the way round laser jammers ive been told is to have electric garage doors or gates because the emit the same frequency or did Bit of a pain trying to get them in the boot Quote
