MVS Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Closest I've come to a celebrity is the late Dave Jeffries. Spent some time in his garage years back prepping bikes with him and a mutual friend, who spannered for him at the Isle of Man TT. We all used to have a curry regularly on a Friday night. Sad loss to the motorcycle race fraternity. He was fast, even if he was too big a lad to get a regular superbike seat Dave Jeffries Memorial Fund Forgot to mention: My wife fixed his teeth Quote
TerryC Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Sat next to Paul Weller on a flight to Madrid (one of the coolest guys I've ever met). Used to sit 3 feet from Gail Porter when I worked in Edinburgh (stunning, just stunning). Shared a bottle of JD with Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in LAX (she was in Scarface, Robin Hood...)(Classy Lady). Raced Radio Controlled Off-Roaders with Gordon Sheddon of BTCC fame. Sat in Derek Warwick's F2 stock car whenever he raced in Scotland as my Dad helped him with his set up at Cowdenbeath. On nodding terms with Ally McCoist, Gordon Durie, Craig Levein, Maurice Malpas, Steven Pressley. Quote
chairemangeezer Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 During the late 70s when I was chauffeuring in London I met and spoke to loads of famous people, we also did a lot of work for embassies and I actually held a door open for the queen during a state visit at Heathrow airport. Don’t forget this was thirty years ago and some of these people were in there prime, 3 days with Susan Georg Brit ekland Barbara Bach Caroline Munro Roger Moore Charlton Heston Joe Bugner Jimmy young Windsor Davies To name but a few, there were others not so famous can’t remember them all now Quote
Astraoid Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 My sister worked for Virgin Atlantic and used to get me sneaky upgrades into Upper Class. I was on my way to LA for a bit of snowboarding sat at the in-flight bar. It was the weekend of the Golden Globe Awards and there were a couple of celebs onboard but I've seen a few on these flights so I can't remember which ones were specifically on this one but what made the journey memorable was that sat next to me was some bloke who turned out to be the director of Bridgit Jone's Diary. We got chatting and he was telling me all about his movies and stuff and then asked me what I did. I didn't really want to say, "Oh nothing really I'm just here on a free upgrade from my sister." so I gave him a bit of billy. I said that I was a journalist for a high performance car magazine on my way to LA to test a car in developement." Unfortunately he was fascinated and wanted to know the inside and outside of a ducks a'rse on every car he'd taken a fancy to over the years... It was a long flight! My missus was on Mallet's Mallet and won a Wac-a-sac. Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I can trump the lot of you as I sang on a "Baron Knights" album. Impressed eh!!!!!! Quote
Westy1700 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Aged 11 i raced against James Hunt and beat him, twas the year after his world championship and i have to admit it was only on Scalextric - but he was mighty p******** to be beaten. It was the same time as a famous ad with morecombe and wise which featured him and the line that my mother dropped in when i had won the challenge ' back off he's looking annoyed'....he soon calmed down though and was a totally chilled and nice guy and i treasure the autographs and books he gave me.....turns out he was at school with a mate of mine too. also beat Damon Hills fastest lap time at some indoor kart track and had a dice on my mates private circuit one afternoon with some of his mates when it turned out i'd lapped Steve Parrish...but that was before i started eating pasties! had a great day driving Donnington with Ray Bellm in the Maclaren GTR before being educated in the nuances of racing lives by a very young Scott Stringfellow who was working to raise funds for a supercup challenge - turns out his old man would'nt sub him the £100k he needed. Scarrest moment was spilling coffee down the front of one of the stars from Gladiators - the big 7' tall Saracen chappie - oops.... tuned out to be as soft as Sh1t3 and really pleasant....we were testing Porsches for the day in Reading and he joked with me that the the only one he could get into was the convertible.
