skids Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Calling Mark....just found some old papers on my house and it has 12 rods of land How much land is that?? Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 A rod is a unit of length, equal to 11 cubits, 5.0292 metres or 16.5 feet. A rod is the same length as a perch[1] and a pole. The lengths of the perch (one rod) and chain (four rods) were standardized in 1607 by Edmund Gunter. The length is equal to the standardized length of the ox goad used by medieval English ploughmen; fields were measured in acres which were one chain (four rods) by one furlong (in the United Kingdom, ten chains). samcooke Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Don't hear of rods much, I've only seen it twice before. A rod is 16.5 feet. If it's referring to area it means 12 square rods, or about 0.075 acres. The colloquial postage stamp Quote
Mark Stanton Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 I'm not that old Mr Skids but it is over 20 years since I was in a surveying lecture Quote
