Evo,s 7SE Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 do nomex race suits have to be under a certain age to be eligble to be used in the sprint series thanks Quote
Evo,s 7SE Posted January 25, 2007 Author Posted January 25, 2007 how old or new do they have to be then please Quote
skids Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 l think three years ,but if you race/sprint you would want to change before then Quote
Mid life crisis Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 I think it is five years not sure why you would want to change a Nomex suit earlier, as unlike proban which is coated to achieve the required protection, Nomex is a flame retardent material. Edited to add They also come up like new in the washing machine on a cool wash but don't tumble dry. Quote
peterg Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Er actually no they don't have an expiry date as such - (Jeez, I can't afford to replace my race overalls every three years ) I think John Loudon's are about 10 years old judging by how faded the colours are QUOTE From the Blue Book:- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9. OVERALLS 9.1. Clean Flame-Resistant overalls, must be worn. Flame resistant overalls may be manufactured from Nomex III, Proban or equivalent materials. Acceptable standards:- Racing: FIA 8856-2000 FIA 1986 Standard Karting: As defined in N.11. All other events (including overalls in accordance with J14-2-2): BS6249 part 1 Index A or B (but not part C). BSEN533 pr EN533:1995 Index 3 FIA 8856-2000 FIA 1986 Standard For FIA Standard Overalls the homologation label will be stitched into the fabric of the garment or on a sewn in label. For International use overalls must comply with: FIA 8856-2000 So long as they're clean and have no rips in them and they comply with the minimum Standard for the event then you should be OK Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 QUOTE I think John Loudon's are about 10 years old judging by how faded the colours are Cheeky! Actually mine was new in 2001 when i first started. They have faded due to getting wet and being dried out quite a few times and also from the sun. Plus they are well used! There's still plenty of life left in them but santa was kind to me Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Only skid lids have a time lifespan overalls are fine as long as they are compliant to cuurent regs and codes and no holes, rips or tears some scrutes do raise a eye at obvious old and faded overalls or any covered in oil Quote
skids Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 All depends on the pies ....Mark as to how long you keep them . I think you got two new sets at the show, was one a size smaller??? Quote
