I know, nothing to do with the 4 wheeled toy, but the 4 cornered toy in the corner of my living room. Having problems with the sound and video timing when playing DVD's. The lip synch seems to be out quite regular. Help!!

I've got a Sagem DLP TV and new Samsung DVD player. I've connected the DVD player to the TV with a Monster scart cable and the sound goes through a Yamaha amp via a fibre-optic cable. The sound signal seems to arrive quicker than the video and I'm not sure how to solve it - and it's driving me mad!

Any ideas?? :bangshead:  :bangshead:

Can't you feed the amp from the aux output on the TV? It might be better synched then.

FWIW I had a Sagem PVR until I decided that I hadn't sinned sufficiently to be visited by the Devil in the form of a French digital recorder. Sagem's customer service department is from the order of Trappist monks - totally silent even when shouted at! Got a Humax now...

My sony DVD has an audio delay setting for use with flat panel TVs.

The flat tv's do a lot of video processing hence the delay between sound and video.

Dare i say it... have you read the manual to see if you have this feature?

Hijack Alert

Ladies & Gentlmen

Does anybody else have really low commentry on Sky HD.

When I watch footie on HD, the crowd volume is always way louder than the commentry, and when you try to turn it up so you can hear Andy Gray go ' YOOUUUBEEAAUUTTYYYYYYYYYYYYY and TEEKABOOOOO SON TEEKABOOOO, all that happens is you think the crowd are in your room and the commentators are still in the stadium.

Tried playing around with the sound settings to no avail.

Is it a known problem with HD or is there something that can be done about it.

Sky+ HD and Toshiba LCD TV 32WL56P HD compatible.

Cheers

If you don't have audio delay, try adjusting the setting for the distance to the front & centre speakers - a higher distance makes the sound earlier (this is essentially the same control as audio delay, just less refined)

Terry,

I have had the same problem and cured it by switcing for stereo to mono sound.

Cheers for all the advise so far. I'm going to try the aux feed from the TV first before checking the DVD manual for delay settings. See what happens!

I've got the Sky HD and yes Andy Gray is a lot quieter on my system. Fortunately, I can just turn up the centre speaker.

Will this still give me the 5.1 sound with the 2 RCA leads?

For 5.1 sound the feed must go through the amp - either by an optical (as you have) a co-ax or occasionally a feed for each channel.

RCA pulgs or using the audio from the TV will loose your surround sound.

Where are you?  Anywhere near Didsbury? I've finished a stack of work recently, and I'm twiddling mthumbs most evenings.

Ah, probably not. My tv has external surround speakers so the aux o/p gives hifi main speakers via my amp, and the rear is handled by the tv speakers.
