Stuart Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 I have just bought a Liteon 20x internal IDE DVD rewriter with Nero 7. DVDs I have made on the recorder under the telly it plays fine, but it doesn't play any audio on pre-recorded DVDs. Have I got a duffer or am I missing something? Quote
ray5wood Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 have you used up to date firmware? I use a liteon and have so for ages ...no probs... it has also burnt 100sof cds/dvds Ray Quote
Stuart Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 TBH I don't really know what firmware is All I have done is fit it and install the software it came with. Where do I get firmware from? Quote
Richgm Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Is the audio connector on the back of the drive connected to your sound card? Quote
VX2L16V Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 have you plugged the little audio lead into the back & connected it to sound card/motherboard sound header? Quote
ray5wood Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 try www.svp.co.uk go to support and head for firmware downloads ps it is there!!! Ray Quote
Stuart Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 Is the audio connector on the back of the drive connected to your sound card? Yes. It plays home recorded DVDs and all CDs, just not pre-recorded DVDs Thanks Ray, got through SVP to the Liteon site but there is no firmware for this unit on the site, just specs, manuals and a couple of piccies to download. Boomy Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 It sounds more like a simple codec issue to me. I haven't used those audio leads on cd or dvd roms for years and my films will play fine. Unless it is specific to that drive, i would forget firmware updates and the like for now as i have never had to do such a thing due to lack of sound.Especially if you get sound from one type of DVD and not another. What are you using to play the DVD? As in what software are you trying to play the film with? Quote
Stuart Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 Same no sound problem using ether Nero 7 or Windows Media Player 10 Quote
Boomy Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Iirc Nero can screw up codecs etc.It can assign itself to play xxx files taking away the windows media player support so to speak. Personaly i never install Nero players (bit late now i know) : p http://www.free-codecs.com/downloa...._10.htm Download that codec and run it then report back Sir. Quote
NRW Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 It won't be a little connector missing they went long ago more likely to be a disc compatability issue like DVD-R or DVD+R does the lite on do both? Quote
Stuart Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 Downloading now and it's gonna take 20mins. What do I do with it when it's downloaded? Nero did install itself as the default media player but I reset to WMP. Quote

As for setting WMP to default again, it is possible it won't have sorted out fully what Nero may have messed up. As with all things PC related, you try the obvious and simple stuff first (deduction by elimination) and then move on. I'm not saying these are your problems, but it is what i would try first of all.
