cast iron Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 Heres a trim question then, for ABCD cars which can only remove carpets. A number of cars I looked at last year in these classes had the interior panels removed i.e. you could see the inside of the aluminium skin. Can I take it for granted this is acceptable Quote
Arm Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 QUOTE A number of cars I looked at last year in these classes had the interior panels removed Cant remove something that was never fitted. Grey, large and area'ish !! Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 It's been generally accepted that the outer aluminium skin can be defined as interior panels (because they are inside the fibreglass bodywork) is acceptable what wouldn't be acceptable is if you remove the inteior panels to expose the fibreglass or the propshaft (If anybody was stupid ebnough to do this) Fibreglass seats which are trimmed with gelcoat are also acceptable Phil Quote
a4gom Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 can't believe i've just remembered my car never had a passenger seat fitted Quote

Can I take it for granted this is acceptable "whistles and wanders off" actually mine originally had no ali on the chassis down the sides at all. It just had some trimmed card board so to add rigidity I removed that and replaced it with ally actually adding weight. Its a bit of a grey area that needs clarification Rob Quote
Arm Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 QUOTE Fibreglass seats which are trimmed with gelcoat are also acceptable LOL Thats a liberal amount of rule interpretation. Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 almost as liberal as flexible toneaus made from carbon Quote

John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 My interior panels were once covered in carpet which has since been removed Anyone who has no interior ali panels and can hence see the fibreglass tub through the chassis should be made aware just how much strength and rigidity can be added to the chassis by using the correct bonding substance and rivetting in an appropiate manner as in aircraft bodywork. John Quote
cast iron Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 almost as liberal as flexible toneaus made from carbon Well thats cleared the interior trim but up For Toneaus and the like the new regs say foldable material instead of flexible, the ammendment came out in the last MSA news letter Quote
