Asterix Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 [deja vu] From the regs recently published..."In all classes roll-hoops or full-cage must be fitted, but they must not be able to accept suspension loads." Surely, any roll-hoop accepts suspension loads? On the assumption that's incorrect and I'm missing a trick, what makes a roll hoop accept suspension loads? Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 When the top of a shock absorber is bolted to it as in a full cage or space frame Quote
Asterix Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 Tanx John, but that can't be absolutely true as quite a few people run full cages... Quote
ACW Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 The history of that particular rule in the blue book is dune buggy / off road racers. As you have realised all cars the roll over cage will take suspension loads, especially in a Severn Vehicle. In many cases a 150% increase in stiffness might be offered by a cage. The rule in the blue book was designed to stop direct mounting of suspension components on the roll over component to ensure they remain distinct items. There were a number of issues of failure of one component as a result of it acting as the other. ie suspension fails damaging the roll over bar which as a result of the suspension failure gets needed. HTH, ACW. Quote
