BuGsBuNnY Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Put that XTR4 in road tyres and see what happens The bike tyres could hardly be described as a "normal" road tyre either Indeed, but they are what they are. Quote
coyote Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Just like the XTR4 tyres then You mean you only get 4000 miles out of XTR4 tyres then? Quote
scott beeland Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 If yer lucky I'd have thought. Not many westfields get 4k miles out of a set of stickies Quote
BuGsBuNnY Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Standard bike tyres are no comparison for standard car tyres but are still very different to car "stickies". I take it you haven't driven a bike on road and track tyres to know the difference. Quote

scott beeland Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I've never ridden a motorbike and have only been pillion once (once was enough at 120 through the Mersey tunnel). I also spend too much of my working life fixing broken bikers. 4 wheels (and sticky tyres) all the way for me Quote

Both are the closest road legal thing to proper race tyres you are gonna get... Quote

I take it you haven't driven a bike on road and track tyres to know the difference. Mmm. Methinks they are actually quite a good comparision. Both are the closest road legal thing to proper race tyres you are gonna get... Standard bike tyres are nothing like the road legal "stickies". Road tyres will do 3000 miles and are quite hard whereas the treaded stickies that championships like the British Supersport that have to run road legal tyres will last a race only. They also come in different compounds soft medium & hard which in reality are extra extra soft, extra soft and soft. Then you start on the profile differences and you would not want to use any of the "stickies" on the road with the much more angular profiles. Car tyres and bike tyres are not comparable much like Bikes and cars are not comparable. They are different. A car will always beat a bike round a circuit. There is no contest. F1 cars are faster round the tracks than the MotoGP bikes as cars have so much more grip and corner speed. Interestingly though the MotoGP bikes are faster down the straits at some circuits and accelerate faster at some circuits but the overall lap time will be slower than the F1 cars. Quote
