Phil. S Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Someone whose opinion I respect told me that a well setup Westy could take Copse flat out. Having done a couple of track days at Silverstone this year, the idea of not braking for Copse seems terrifying (though I am a bit of a wimp about such things). I'll take an instuctor out on 26th for some tips, but I was curious what sort of speed people here have taken it at? Quote
Martin Keene Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Seems at bit extreme... But it might just be possible. F1 Cars take it nearly flat, at something like 160-170, whilst a Westfield doesn't produce anything like the downforce (more like lift) of an F1 car, they also won't be going anything like as fast. My guess would be even the fastest Westfield will be doing about... Actually as I'm typing this, I'm becoming less conviced. A well set up Westfield, is going to be a fast Westfield, and is going to be well into 3 figures before Copse... If it is possible the driver has a *very* large set! Quote

This year's f1 cars don't brake until club so no comparsison at all! Even if my car could turn in at 115mph I'm not sure I could resist touching the middle pedal, or at least lifting. Though I had the same problem at Coppice at Cadwell which I am also told is flat out. Quote
Martin Keene Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Which one is Coppice? If it is the uphill left at the end of the start/finish straight, then yes it is flat in a xflow car* But, in something like an XE/V8/modded Zetec, then no because they are travelling faster at the end of the straight. * = Although whilst I don't brake for it I've never managed it without a small confidence lift... DickieB Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Even in a 1300 cc Locost, Copse needs a lift - but of course we're only on 539s. Sticky tyres would make a hug difference! Coppice at Cadwell is definitely flat in a Locost! Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Coppice at Cadwell is definitely flat in a Locost! Flat in a DJ too Quote
Mark Stanton Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 QUOTE Even in a 1300 cc Locost, Copse needs a lift That explains something Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 As mine will do over 150mph I would not take it flat out Death would be a given Quote
Arm Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 QUOTE Flat in a DJ too Should think so at 63 mph ! Quote

A well set up Westy on slicks with a 1300 Xflow I would expect to be flat out, but with 300bhp monster on road tyres, I would take my hat off to the man. Tubs Quote

Tubs Point taken, so to make this more precise: do you reckon a Vx powered narrow westy (around 560kg) with around 170bhp, R888s and protech shocks could take copse flat out or nearly flat out? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 depends on if it was set-up properly but could possibly come close to it with the ability and nads Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 I thought yer meant how fast do yer go to overtake policemen Quote
