Caterham never seem to race their stock cars unlike Westfield/Dax etc.  As Hugh said, Duncan's car really is stock apart from stiffer strings and a cage.  He uses Gaz shocks, Sierra cast iron brake calipers and anybody is invited to inspect it and it's exactly what you get if you order one.

The cars that Caterham took to the 0-100-0 competition were specifically developed for that particular test and even then Duncan beat them but they disallowed the run because it was Duncan driving not the chap from Autocar . . . who incidentally . . . no, can't be bothered to go into that.

That tuner war thing in evo was also a sod for dax, running half boost and limited to 10k rpm, that wasn't mentioned either. :D

Drive both Caterhams (SL)  and Westfields on track and to be honest I don’t think there is much in outright pass of either car. Both good just slightly different. My sprint car handles better than my road car but is not as nice a ride on the road. So to compare both is a little difficult. The Caterham in the clip seems to have grip on a whole different level to the Caterhams I have driven so can only surmise that it is on some very good tyres with quite a lot of work done to the suspension.

Ive had a blat with a few csrs c/vans on track and have always got the better of them over a lap or two  ???  but for the life of me I cant see my 1300cc car getting near the stig in anything on the top bit of the board.. something doesnt add up to me ,  that car to be that quick must very  different to the cars Ive come up against..also  I cant get near the likes of a radical etc on track, braking corners etc they are something else with downforce  on a lap they butcher my car  so how would something like that  do round that  track or indeed one of the westfield xtr s ???

or indeed one of the westfield xtr s ???

I thought one had already gone a second or so faster ?  Maybe somebody can find the thread in the absence of Blatman ?  ???

This car is definetly a CSR and not race spec one either, but yes it will have a lot of grip. They also do have an air scoop.

For those that don't know much about CSR's, they are probably a quicker track car than the Superlight R500. If you have any doubt look at the CSR times they are achieving.

And JeffC, I doubt whether your n/a Busa would be able to keep up with CSR260 driven as it was designed, sorry.

I should ruddy well hope not. If I'd spent £40k on a seven I'd be very disappointed if *anything* was faster.

I wonder how fast I could go with £32,000 worth of engine mods...

Maybe not and I cant comment on the drivers ability  but the one I chased round Elvington earlier in the year put up a decent fight for 6 laps he couldnt do anything with me, 1st session I eventually passed him out of a corner, 2nd session I  was behind and I pushed him to such an extent after 4 laps of him blocking me the driver got black flagged as he was driving so hard trying to get away that the trackday organisers  thought he  was becoming dangerous,    :t-up: there were quite a few people that post on here that will confirm this  ;)

I noticed he wasnt very chatty when I went to see him afterwards  :arse:

I was on slicks  not 100%  on the caterhams tyres. think they were ao48s yokos ...Performance down the straights up to 120mph the csr could get from behind to along side but not enough to pass though.

I dont knock the performance of it far from it,Im considering a duratec myself (westy of course  ;)  )

It was quick but cant for the life of me seeing it been as quick as some of the cars on the top of the  board  :)

i dont mean the nose ducting (which westfield have had for years lest we forget).  i meant the air scoop into the inlet manifold that is obvious in the vid.

looking at it again, there is also a cutout on the drivers side of the bonnet where the filter for whatever engine that used to be in it was when the exhaust was on the other side (probably used to be k-series).

also, and im no expert but seeing as moody here claims to be but is blatantly talking out of A*** i shall hazard a guess, thats a narrow chassi and all csr's are widebody chassis.

so i reckon its got sweet FA to do with a csr260. sorry moody but please get your facts straight

Don't know if that CSR is a 200 or 260, but saying that, it is mainly for reducing induction noise, which probably explains why the ones I see on track have it, could be a retro item then?

JeffC, is Elvington a lump of concrete with cones laid out across it? There's a lot of difference between a trackday and a competitive circuit race, which is where the CSR260 excels. The CSR has lots of torque and coupled to the six speed box, means it never gets bogged down. But ultimately, they generate lots of grip with this new wide chassis.
