Chattering front brake pads.

I have noticed a rather annoying clicking/rattling noise coming from the N/S/F of the Westy over the last couple of days that seemed to be related to road speed not engine speed.

After a couple of checks on the wheel nuts, wheel bearings ect I finally traced the noise to the front brake pads rattling around in the calipers (Hi Spec 4 pots)

When I fitted the pads I used copper slip (as per usual) and there did'nt seem to be an unusual ammount of play as the pads slid into the caliper.

The CAT 4 pots that came off the car did'nt rattle at all, is this a perculiarity of the Hi Spec calipers?

The brakes are very good so I'm particulary bothered but the noise is a bit annoying.

Got exactly same noise as yours except my calipers are standard two pots.Looking at disc I have a small amount of runout which is causing the disc to hit the pads every revolution causing the chattering sound.

After about a years use, I had a little bit of rattle, plus quite a bit of low speed squeel under firm braking. I lived with it for sixth months, but have recently taken the pads out, roughened the friction surface up by sanding, and re copper slipped them. They've been fine since.

I have a tiny ammount of runout on the disc and it's this that's just catching and lifting the pads.

I'll whip em out and re copper slip them to see it it fixes the problem.
