I must admit a part from the odd bit of coverage on here. They don't exactly shout out about the championship from the highest building. Its something I wouldn't give it a second thought to be honest.

I know there’s a separate site for the championship but it does seem a bit use and them .

It needs someone to promote it thro’ the club: dates, venues, social side, write ups in WW. It just seems like a stealth Championship. NO body seems to have given a break down as to what the cost of competing in it is? Who the contenders are who to contact I was looking at buying a track day car with the idea of a years track daying then in to a race series. I look at a few race prepared Westfield’s which were chunk of money & a bit tatty, then I thought sod that Westfield bits don't come cheap, I’ve decided to look at doing the 750 club championship, which is a well structured, people friendly well advertised series

As I said it needs someone one a t Westfield to champion the series or it will loss the championship status. A part from Keith and the odd other competitor we don't here anything, see may photos because there's no info shared on the Club site regularly.

U can say ok go to this page and get the info but its like anything you need to ram it up people to get it to fix in their minds ask anyone form the Yorkshire Area who the A.O is and most of them will say Buzz cos' we get 20 emails a week, endless area boardroom postings etc its called ‘pro-activeness’ and that’s what’s lacking in a BIG way with the Westfield series me thinks

Ok here goes. I am car 38 in the championship and am middle to lower part of the grid so this is how to do it or not.

1) Entry costs. Usual fee is £170 for 15 to 20 mins practice and 15 to 20 mins race. You get 5 person passes and 2 vehicle passes. If is motorsport vision ciircuit it is £20 more and 1 less pass. 12 races a year, some are 2 in a weekend and the race fee for double header is about £300. £60 reg fee for championship and racing membership of barc which is uner £100.

2) What you need

Nat B Race licence so do ARDS test

Suit and helmet to correct spec (see demon tweeks)

Trailer and tow car or truck etc

3) Car. Se or SEi or SE wide or SEi wide chassis

Petrol tank must be westfield one that goes above diff

Plumbed extinguisher (£100 peter lloyd)

Cut off switch, 2 throttle springs.

Westfield full cage

Fia cert harness

Full lights that work inc fog light, however front lights are usually tiny things.

2 litre breather/ catch tank (i use a plastic bottle as its free and light)

westfield aero screen.

Cast iron brake calipers and no grooved/drilled discs i.e. its all standard.

No wide track suspension or alloy shocks. but rosejointed and arbs are ok.

7 x 13 wheels and control tyres

Standard diff no lsd allowed

Allowed straight cut box, but i use a standard 5 speed type 9. (no more than 5 forward gears). The standard box is on its limit, but if you use decent oil its ok.

I use a standard clutch, it has to be single plate, no fancy competition paddle things etc.

1800 130ps Zetec with twin 40 webers and 36 chokes and weber alpha ignition. Must run alternator. I use a straight from ford off pallet brand new 115ps zetec with 130 cams fitted , chopped sump, lightened flywheel, thats it, it works. Others use better engines built by race engine builders, its your choice. The engine is basically standard, you can balance it and ignitition/timing  is free.

Weight must be min 600kg with driver in.

2 rear facing mirrors

4) Other costs. Fuel i use about 30 litres of super unleaded for the race car per race and then there is diesel for the truck. Sleep in tent or truck for overnight. Last season used 2 set of acb10's costing approx £400 a set, this year we are going to something else and should be all weather tyre. Brake pads, i use green stuff which most others think is not a good idea, and after losing the brakes at oulton park perhaps they are correct...3 front sets for the year. m1144 for the back 2 sets. Oil 15 litres, 2 set of plugs.

Maybe budget for a spare set of cycle wings and rear arches, but tank tape in the same colour is good, just don't  look too close!

If your serious and have the budget a test day of two is a good idea, cheep at pembery or mallory, very expensive at a motorsport vision place.

Thats it. Hope its useful................

Hi Guys, missed this topic as I've been so busy at work I havent visited the boardroom for a while. I was suprised to see the amount of posts relating to the race series as it rarely sems to get much interest in comparison to the speed series. From my perspective as a relative newcomer in the last two years the westfield series is one of the closest, most competitve and entertaining series out there. the cars are very quick and enjoyable to drive. the 2006 grids have improved a lot with 5 new competitors and if the number of cars entered is counted instead of number of cars taking the start. average grids would be 20, well above the yellow card average. so lets all get behind the series and help it grow.

Speed series £70 - £100 for 4 or 5 runs.!!!!!!!!!!!! :arse:

Comparison isn't quite as straight forward event cost Mark  ;)  :D

Sure the Race series has suffered in recent years with a distinct lack of promotion and publicity   let's hope it gets better coverage for 2007 season by all concerned and involved  :D  :D  :D

Yeah I know! It was merely an observation.

I have a friend who competes a Westfield in the BARC.

He had told me thier average cost to enter an event was between £135- £170 depending on venue.

Sounds a lot but they get on 15 min practice,ie about 10 or 12 laps in practice and again in the race.

Makes sprinting sound expensive by comparison when you compare the track time.

On the down side though, he does get more in the way of repair costs due to the odd scrape here and there.
