AshJackson Posted June 20, 2002 Posted June 20, 2002 Well I've finally managed to buy a Westfield. It's a black 1992 SEIW powered by a X-Flow with vulcan engineering head, fast road cam what have you. (I'm not exactly a mechanical wizz! It's going to need a bit of work come the winter relating to it's age, but I think I've agreed a fair price and it's gonna provide muchos fun over the summer!! So I'm sure to bombard you with newbie questions for which I'll apologise in advance! The first of which being... oil recommendations for an X-Flow. I've got the impression that Mobil 1 is generally considered too thin for x-flows, any low-tech luiddites care to reccomend? Plus, anyone know of a westy familier rolling-road in the Nottingham area where I can get it tuned up? It seems a little reluctant to tick over properly when hot, although I've heard stories that this might be due to excess heat getting to the fuel lines. I'm sure I'll have many more questions to follow, but I'm just overjoyed that I've taken my first step on the westfielding ladder Regards, wide grin of Nottingham aka Ash. Quote
damianc Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 Congratulations. I guess it's a bit late to go out for a blast just now? wrt oil, Millers 20/50 seems to be well regarded. I used to used re-badged comma 20/50 at only a few quid a gallon, then change it every 2-3k miles. I'm assuming you're on carbs and that the oil will get thinned by fuel seeping by so it's worth changing regularly. Mobil 1 & the like will find every oil seal and leak out of it! Quote

Bob Green Posted June 21, 2002 Posted June 21, 2002 Hi Ash You don't say what you have under the bonnet but it may be a case of careful setting up of the electricial and fuel systems which can be done without a rolling road. E-mail me if you like and maybe I can help. Kind regards Bob Quote
AshJackson Posted June 22, 2002 Author Posted June 22, 2002 I've not picked it up yet So I've not had chance to take a really detailed look at the ingnition system. It does have some sort of ignition box thigny (luminition I think) mounted on back of the engine bay. I'll be able to give more details when I've picked it up. I've got to pace up and while I'm waiting for insurance docs etc to arrive, I wonder if I could be knocked out and revived when it's time to collect Booooooooooooooooo to the waiting! I WANT MY WESTFIELD! Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted June 22, 2002 Posted June 22, 2002 Booooooooooooooo to his waiting . I have a baseball bat to help you wth your problem Quote
AshJackson Posted June 22, 2002 Author Posted June 22, 2002 I was thinking more of a star trek style suspended animation. Although it's a kind offer, I don't think it offers the precision revival I need Quote
