RS WST Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Looking for a set of tyre warmer for the Westie Need to go over 235 x 13 tyres Only need the rears but would consider a set of 4 Any ideas? Quote
Guest Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 demon tweeks catalogue or try a google search , although tyre warming is banned in club motorsport under msa rules , can't think of a uk series that uses them ........ (thats cause they can't harv) even using a heat gun to remove pickup has been protested lately . Quote
RS WST Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Its for drag racing which is OK but the problem here in the UK now is that in street class you have to use road legal tyres. I'm using Kuhmo V70 in soft compound but would benefit alot from them being nice and hot off the line. I've noticed as much as 0.8 sec difference on the smae track but with warmer tyres which is alot. Quote
peterg Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Fit a Line-Lok and do a proper burnout, that'll get 'em warm Quote
RS WST Posted October 4, 2006 Author Posted October 4, 2006 Burnouts are OK but expensive Plus I won't get the car MOT'd with a line lock if they want to be fussy Quote
polly_x Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Austen.......with the dollar youve spent on your car a few sets of rear tyres wont harm your pocket!!!! Get burning out!!!!! Quote
Numptie Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Fit a Line-Lok and do a proper burnout, that'll get 'em warm What's one of them then? Cheers, Eric Quote
adhawkins Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 If I understand it correctly, a line lock allows you to lock the front brakes on, and thus do a 'proper' burnout. Andy Quote
peterg Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Yep, Andy's got it right, you apply the brakes hard, flick the LineLok switch (or lever) and it locks the front brakes on, get off the brake pedal and that releases the pressure to the rears so you can drop the clutch and do a proper burnout without moving forward, release the LineLok and come off the throttle and dip the clutch and you can approach the startline with nice hot sticky tyres I know a couple of big single seaters use them Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Surely a line lok stops pressure going to the brakes at one end of the car - in our case the rears. Not locking the front brakes on. It allows you to hold your foot on the brake pedal whilst allowing the rears to rotate without any braking effort to their brakes. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 That's American so it's bound to be wacky! Not how I would do it anyway. Quote
peterg Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Yeah, well they've only been drag racing for 60 years, what would the septics know Quote
Paul Ranson Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 QUOTE I know a couple of big single seaters use them Which ones? Generally in speed events forward motion must be maintained while wheel spinning, I stick my left foot on the brake and try to keep the engine of the limiter and not lock the fronts. It does make a difference to get the tyres clean, I think any heat is irrelevant. Paul Quote
