peterg Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 I'm currently out of work, mainly as I'm trying to find a house to rent nearer Heathrow/Gatwick as SWMBO's job is taking her all over Europe and Canada and we're too far from the airports plus my elderly parents are getting more frail and I'd like to be closer in case of emergency etc So, once we've moved I need to find work and am trying to look towards a more definite career rather than just relying on well paid temping and it's been suggested that training as a Home Inspector could provide me with reasonably well paid employment for the next few years before retirement once trained up...any comments? samcooke Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Erm... Don't do it. The Home Condition Report will now be voluntary so no one will do it and there's not enough money in energy efficiency reports to make a viable career. Plus if we see a change of government it will all be pulled anyway and the quals will be worthless. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Ever thought of driving test examiner? DSA advertise quite often and the top age is over sixty IIRC. Quote
Bananaman Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 I spoke to the Surveyer who survey'd our house and he said pretty much what samcooke said........ Quote
peterg Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 OK thanks for the replies guys. Quote
peter pan Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 Whist The home information pack is to be voluntary, the energy efficiency report is as far as I am aware is not, That said the the DER/TER calc system is relatively complex, and you have to have a background in building construction if you dont want to become just a button pusher. Current rate for a calculation circa £75 - £87. Quote
