felters Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 why bother? If you're going to change at all I'd smack a Busa or R1 in there... Quote
ChrisG Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Agreed, a bird conversion is no easier than an R1 or busa conversion because none of the important/expensive blade bits are interchangeable with the 'bird. If you want equivalent performance go with an R1 that doesnt need dry sumping so saving significant cost, or if you want better performance than either and don't mind spending the extra cash, get a busa or maybe ZX12. I did a blade to injected R1 conversion on my Locost 18 months ago and overall I guess it cost me around £1500 to do, including selling the blade engine gubbins, and CarlR did a similar thing with his Megablade going to R1 too. Al Yupright Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 In fairness, you can get all the bits you need to do the bird conversion 'off the shelf' from Westfield. The crade, manifold etc. So if you dont want to fabricate or sort out someone else to do the fabrication, then it is an avenue. If you go for a carbed blackbird then you can use the same fuel system (pump, lines and tank) as the blade too. I'd put the busa in it, its what I would've done if I'd kept my megablade. Quote
Crash Override Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 You can no longer get the exhaust manifold from the factory as longshanks (Graham) tried, he had to have one made Malc Quote
