grunsmis Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Me and my girlfriend went out for a drive this morning to Bellagio at the Como-lake (only 30min from Monza... life is tough in Italy..) Close to the lake we were stopped by the Italian police. Since this was the first time I was stopped in the Seven and my paperwork is still temporary I was a bit worried. The police made it immediatly clear that they just stopped us to look at the car, no worries needed. The fact that we were going 110km/h were 60 is allowed was apparently not a problem. Maximum speeds in italy are anyway more indications then strict limits... When they checked the paperwork one agent, the one who actually knew Westfield, saw that my car had to have a cata. He was checking the exhaust, all the while chatting to my girlfriend (who is Italian) so fast I couldn't understand a word. He then asked my girlfriend to translate: He congratulated me on getting my hands on one of these new hightech cats that fit in the same diameter pipe as the rest of the exhaust and do not affect gasflow at all....... He then proceeded to warn me that not all police were informed about these new catalysators and that some might be misled into thinking that I took away the cat and fitted a straight-through pipe... He suggested to fit one of these new type cats with a slightly bigger diameter in the middle so that it looked more like a conventional one. He kept a straight face all the way, only smiled a little at the end. My girlfriend didn't understand a thing and was really worried.... He then informed me of a nice road a little bit further where some collegues were doing speedchecks.... So far a good sunday. Mies Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Can't we send some of our police on away days to Italy to brush up on their public service. Quote
Ted Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 Think I know where my next driving holiday will be Quote

Martin Keene Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 hi martin - did you book that hotel i recommended? lovely part of the world wherever your staying. just got back from my honeymoon - its a bit of a bump to reality with starting a new job tomorrow - eeek No, it was a bit pricey for us... Something like £750 for a week! But thanks for the recommendation anyway. We found a nice one called the Palace Hotel in Como, 4 stars, free parking, £450 B&B. Perfect, I prefer B&B, because it gives the oppourtunity to explore local restaurants. Quote
oioi Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 no worries, como is lovely and a good base to explore from. we went to the hotel with a group of family friends for 4 days earleier this year. there was something like 20 of us. our bar bill alone was 400euro!!!! Quote
v7slr Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 On the Se7ens list Italy2003 tour we encountered Ponch and Jon at a motorway service station. Well they looked like the guys from CHiPS even though they stepped out of a car... complete with cool shades and a uniform most likely made by one of the Italian fashion houses (they look so much cooler than our Police). Anyway, they wandered over to the half dozen Se7ens on the forecourt and gave us the once over, muttering "Bella, bella" etc etc... Then one turned to his partner and exclaimed "Eeengleesh Ferrari, no?". Quote
