Rear arch distance from chassis

Just about to finalise the bodywork, fixing the undersides to the chassis rails.

Its possible to secure the bodywork to give a wide variance in the rear arch widths, the manual doesn't say what the widths should be, so....

Is there an expected/accepted/general width/distance from the chassis to lip of the arch?

The natural and what appears to fit the tyres best dimensions are:

leading edge bottom 285mm (to ally arch inner panel)

top 275mm (to ally arch inner panel)

trailing edge bottom 335mm (to fuel tank/chassis corner join)

This gives a gentle widening taper to the sides of the bodywork throughout its length, where I'd prefer a vertical line, but this just seems to be how it is.

What dimension have other people got? Even detachable arch and narrow people, for comparison to dimensional changes.

Hi Chris

Have you made any progress with fitting your bodywork?

I have a fixed rear arch car that is nearing completion. Having mounted my tub following the manual dimensions/procedure (400mm from tub to rail, rear of tub jacked up and riveted.) I am somewhat disappointed with the body position relative to the wheels/tyres. I am now in the process of trying to do something about it.

The biggest issue I have is the rear of the arch is too far away from the wheel especially on drivers side.

When I measure various points on the rear of the tub it appears the two sides are certainly not a mirror image and the o/s arch is 10mm narrower.

I plan to fit a spacer between the box section and return edge of tub to move the arches down and forward.

If I can help with any info get in touch. I can e-mail you photos if you like or if anyone else has got some info lets have it.

Regards

Simon
