Yobbo Posted September 24, 2006 Posted September 24, 2006 I must admit that this has enlightened me as I had no idea until this week that all air ambulances were complete charities even though a relation needed it very recently when a tree fell on him. I have sent a decent contribution to my local Air ambulance and mentioned that the Hamsters accident had encouraged me to do so as it has publicised the difficulties in funding that they have. As you can see from the map attached. Air ambulance services are far from universal in the UK http://www.angliaone.org.uk/uploaded_files/Response_times.htm Quote

Morbius Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Wales Air Ambulance (my local service) has a Charity Auction page on fleabay. Might be the way to go for Scott B's idea, with the funds split either by where most Westy owners live, or better still where they are most likely to come a cropper and require assistance. No one wants anyone to get hurt like the hamster, but it is good to know that the help is there in an emergency. As an occasional sailor, I already support the lifeboats by monthly DD, so as a biker and occasional track day nutter in my Westie, I will see if I can do the same for the Air Ambulance - our mob recently saved a biker with a crushed chest by the paramedic doing emergency surgery at the roadside before getting him to hospital. scott beeland Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 So? Do the club officials want to set this charity donation "for sale " section up? Or is it a no go? Current air ambulance services UK Air ambulances Quote
a4gom Posted September 25, 2006 Posted September 25, 2006 Just said on the news this morning that with all the donations (£220k+) they were looking into setting up a second base n copter somewhere around sheffield. Quote
peterg Posted September 27, 2006 Author Posted September 27, 2006 The £50,000 donation was 'declined'.... I don't know if it was deliberate like some of the crazy Ebay bids you see sometimes or the guy's credit card company is worried about money laundering or something but it's a shame they're back to 'only' £147,000 Quote
scott beeland Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 The charity "for sale" idea doesn't seem to be too popular with the club officials ? Quote
adhawkins Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Scott, have you suggested it to them 'officially'? It could easily be missed in this thread. I'd suggest a direct e-mail to Mark. Andy Quote
scott beeland Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 Already done that mate. Waiting for reply but am aware that Mark has a busy "real" life so not pushing things. Quote
