JimNoble Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 The speedsport was supposed to be around 155-160bhp. I don't think mine makes quite that much though. Maybe once I've finished twiddling the map... Also, I don't think Scholar did the engine - I spoke to them about an issue I was having with mine and they said it had been quite a while since they'd built engines for Westfield. If you have access to the MBE easimap s/w and the ecu cable (assuming it's the same 956E ecu), have a look in the chip comment - you'll probably find a reference to the map having been developed by Mech Repairs in Cheltenham... steppenwolf Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 The Sport Carbon is essentially a SpeedSport with a slightly lighter weight body panel set and some carbon body parts. Unlike the SpeedSport, it didn't come as standard with an LSD, TraxSpax shock absorbers or anti-rollbars. The engine in both types was the same, namely a Zetec 1800 running on Jenvey TBs with an MBE 956 ECU producing around 155 BHP with the standard Westfield catalytic converter exhaust and 8 to 10 bhp more with a larger diameter non-CAT exhaust. This is not strictly true! Some of the Speedsports did have Scholar modified Stage 1 cylinder heads and were assembled by Scholar with Kent FZ1802 cams. These engines have around 170bhp. Some other Speedsports had standard Ford Zetecs with 130 cams and put out approx 155bhp. The way to tell is the colour of the Engine block - the Scholar engines had maroon blocks. The Speedsport is a completely different spec to the later 1800 sport. The Speedsports came with ARB's and LSD's as standard where as the 1800 sport does not. The later 1800 sport uses a Ford engine with 130 cams producing 155 bhp. Quote
jiboia Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Hi, I own a carbon sport also. N° 10 with a 1800 Zetec Jenvey and MBE. Are they all factory built? Quote
Mike H Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 AFAIK Sport Carbons were all factory built. Plus, SpeedSports did NOT all come with LSDs. Mike Quote
Mark B Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 All sport carbons were factory built, a genuine speedsport as per the speedsport brochure has an lsd, front and rear arb's, nylon bushes, jenveys and various other bits as standard. Westfield used a few engine suppliers, scholar being one of them & as nikpro said can be identified by a grey hammered finish camcover and maroon painted engine block, these are higher specced than the engines gained from the other two sources. In later years some cars have been called speedsports but they are not genuine speedsports to the same high spec as the brochure, ie no lsd as standard etc... The sport carbon was based on the sport 1800 & were all factory built, they can be in various specs as per the original owners wishes, therefore you will see some with more goodies than others, but they all had jenveys, carbon cycle wings, carbon rear arch protectors, carbon gearknob and a build plaque. I know it's all very confusing as there's no set rule as per the spec but that's what I found out after extensive research of the models a year or two ago! Whatever you've got it's all good so enjoy it and welcome to the club! HTH Mark. Quote

In which case not all of them had nylon bushes either (metalastic here... ) Jim Quote

Don't mean to labour the point but that's not true. I built my own SpeedSport in 1999 from a modular kit and it did not have a lsd as standard as I had to cough up an extra £400 ish to upgrade the spec. SpeedSport spec at the time added Jenveys, MBE ecu, 2.25" springs all roung (on AVO dampers in my case), front/rear ARBs, 205 wheel/tyre combo. Mike Quote
