Azzacat Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Hi some advise please, i am not a big fan of credit card and to be honest i rearly use mine, however is it possible to say buy a car from a private seller with one, i have 12 months 0% intrest at the moment and with my travel expences i can clear the card in 4/5 months so i would like to be able to pay "Joe Blogs" 6 grand into his bank account I can withdraw cash on it but that is at a unwanted premium Thanks Quote
Willow Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't have thought you could pay a private seller directly with a credit card. Do you/does he have a paypal account? You could pay via that method and it would then charge to your card. You'd have to pay extra for the paypal fees though. Quote
stu999 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Some credit card companies will issue credit card cheques. You write it as normal, but your card account is debited instead. Look carefully on the charges though. Quote
Azzacat Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Ahh interesting, I never thought of PAYPAL need to asess he charges Quote
Willow Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I'm not sure what the paypal charges are - I think possibly around 1%, but not sure if there's an upper limit to that, otherwise it would end up costing £60 which would probably defeat the whole object. It may be cheaper to go with Stu's suggestion of credit card cheque? Quote
studbuckle Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Talk to the credit card company. They'll be happy to help i'm sure Quote
JeffC Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 you wont be able to pay via card to a private seller, I dont have facilities to take cards and asked at the bank if the buyer could pay with their card into my account if I took them to the bank but they said not.. My neighbour has a machine to take card but im sure it costs him on the transaction.. Paypal will be the same Quote
Bean Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 When I bought my runaround I arranged a temporary large overdraft with my bank, I paid the seller via bankers draft and transferred my overdraft to a zero percent credit card. The temporary overdraft cost me less than £20, I then paid the credit card off and incurred no interest. Quote

If you use your credit card/credit cheques it's goung to cost you whatever your apr is. You would be far better off with a short term bank loan. Quote
