worldwidewebs Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Is there any way to wire DVD, Sat etc up to the TV without having to resort to cables? No matter what I do I always end up with a mass of cables spilling out of the sides of the cabinet which looks pretty untidy. I have found some wireless "dongles" but these only seem to connect one TV to another and the wireless bits still need connecting to the mains anyway. Any ideas...? Quote
The Great Fandango Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I've plugged my cat into the back of all my components (DVD, CD, Amp, Sky+, X-Box 360, and iPod) This new feline-connection system of mine reduces the unsightly view of miles of cabling, offers a purring sound over the usual electrical 'hum', and you can stroke it if the mood takes you. b******* all sound or picture though Quote

letterkenny Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 If you are using an av amplifier (usually dolby digital) they are likely to do the image switching as well as the sound. The benefit of this is you wire your sound through the amp as normal but also run the picture from your DVD, sat, xbox etc output to the amplifier. There is then one output from the amplifier to the TV. While not wireless it does reduce the spagetti! This is usually done by sVHS or S video cables to save space vs scart leads so you may need new cables. More recent amps suitable for HDTV will also do what is called up-conversion. You plug all your analogue lines into the amp which converts everything to a digital signal, so one HDMI/DVI cable will carry the signal to the TV. While there are semi wireless options as you mention the degredation in picture quality from DVD or digital satellite is so bad it is not really worth it IMHO. Quote
