Barry Ashcroft Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I wear a shirt & tie daily and I went for a internal promotion interview and made sure I put a suit on it's just the done thing in my book. Good luck with the interview Quote
Karl Woolf Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 At the end of the day when you go for an interview your selling yourself. Anything to boost your appeal could easily pay for itself 10 fold, good investment in my book Personally go for the wedding suit it`ll only be for a couple of hours tops. But I would leave the top hat at home Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Wow at my last 'interview' I wore a hard hat, high vis jacket and safety boots with mud on em Quote

Martin Keene Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 Martin - What is that you do in a suit thats gonna shaby it up at one interview b4 a weding - assuming it a regular suit and not a morning suit. It's not going to get dirty or anything, but I can't help feeling it won't be the same standing there at the wedding if it's been worn once already... Quote
Martin Keene Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 I'm going to try on one of my Dad's tomorrow and if that don't fit, I've just had a look in Tesco's tonight and they do black suit jackets for £23! Quote
pgh Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I work in the kind of place where seeing anyone in a shirt is rare, tshirt and jeans is the 'uniform' (just to set the scene, fashion at the moment seems to be knickers higher than trousers for the ladies). In spite of this, on the occasions I do interview I at least put on a shirt and trousers & would expect the interviewee to be wearing a suit. For second interviews, we tell the candidate to not dress smart. Typically this gives a good insight into whether or not they'll fit in; jeans and smart shoes is usually a no... Anyway, good luck with the interview - hope it goes great for you. Paul Quote
davidgh Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Martin First impressions are very important -- but they should say "I'm smart, relaxed and self confident". Turning up looking uncomfortable in a suit you've never worn before might make you look as though you're trying too hard. For most engineering companies, a smart jacket & trousers with a good shirt and tie (and clean shoes) should be fine. Good luck David Quote
