Liam Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 From Monday 18th September all drivers will be required to ensure that children under 135cms (approximately 4' 5") or age 12, whichever they reach first, use an appropriate child restraint when travelling in their vehicle (A child restraint is a collective term for car seats, high backed booster seats and booster cushions). Penalties for offenders remain at a £30.00 fixed penalty notice or a maximum fine of £500.00 if a case goes to court. Before transporting a child in a vehicle drivers’ must consider the following: · Check the height of the child. Children up to 135cm in height (and under 12 years old), need to use a child seat, booster seat or booster cushion suitable for their weight. · Ensure that any restraint is securely fitted. If in any doubt, drivers’ should get expert advice. Many retailers have trained in-store experts who can advise on the best kind of restraint for a child and can demonstrate how to fit it. Pembroke Pat Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 so how do you get a booster seat into westfield? Quote
Guest Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 In the space where the boot box would be!! On the other hand it is worth noting that an unrestrained passenger in a Westy would probably end up forced into the footwell, wich is rather small! Quote
lespaul Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hmmm, my son is quite well wedged in the seat and secured by a 4 point harness (he's seven) which I would have considerd an appropriate child restraint Darren Quote
a4gom Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I'm all for safety but yet again they have brought out a law which is b*llocks 135cm or age 12, the text in the booklet says this law has been brought in to ensure the lap belt fits in the correct place , lifting the child using a booster to do so. So why not just 135cm? is it ok for the lap belt not to be in the right place if they are over 12? And no rule to cover anyone between 13 and adult if you are under 135cm My son stopped using his booster last year, he's well built and found it quite uncomfortable fitting his ar$e into the seat also due to his weight he was unstable sat on top of it. He's still 1" and 4 years short of the new rules and the lap belt fits in exactly the same position on him as it does on me. Quote
adhawkins Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 He's still 1" and 4 years short of the new rules and the lap belt fits in exactly the same position on him as it does on me. Maybe you need a booster then? Andy Quote
