VX2L16V Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Which Fire Extinguisher should I get for the Westfield? I *think* I'm after hand held rather than plumbed in but I'm open to suggestions... Dry Powder/AFFF/ABC? Don't know which capacity either. Cheers, Paul. Quote
Blatman Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 AFFF... Capacity? As big as you think you need! And fer gawds sake don't mount it between the seats... Quote
VX2L16V Posted September 10, 2006 Author Posted September 10, 2006 AFFF... Capacity? As big as you think you need! And fer gawds sake don't mount it between the seats... Thanks Mr.B Can you tell me why AFFF is better than ABC? & how big do I need? & Why not mount it between the seats? It might knock some sense into me Quote
Blatman Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Powder settles. You wouldn't be the first to reach for a powder extinguisher in a hurry, deploy it, only to find a small puff of powder comes out with the rest sat in a nice big lump in the extinguisher. IIRC, AFFF is the preferred medium for motorsport fire fighting Quote
peterrosey Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I've also heard tales of dry powder causing lots of problems after being used - ie chassis corrosion etc. May not be an issue - at the end of the day it's to stop you getting burned - but AFFF (glorified washing up liquid) is more friendly to the car. Halon was the best of the lot IMHO, but got banded for environmental reasons. Crazy - save a human or save a tree? Hmmm, let me think... Quote
Martin Keene Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Halon was the best of the lot IMHO, but got banded for environmental reasons. Crazy - save a human or save a tree? Hmmm, let me think... Could even be sprayed into electronics wit no ill effects. Banning it was not the most stupid thing the EU have done involving extinguishers though... That was making them all red! Quote
VX2L16V Posted September 11, 2006 Author Posted September 11, 2006 so what capacity do you fellas have then? Quote
Blatman Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Can't remember, but the sprint car is having a plumbed in one over this winter due to me adding a full cage... Quote
moomin Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 so what capacity do you fellas have then? I meant to check last night, but forgot. I'm fairly sure I have this one here, fitted to the floor of the car, just in front of the passenger seat - just fits in the space nicely. Edited to add: the Lifeline website has a datasheet listing the dimensions of each model (though having just tried to view it, it seems a bit grumpy at the moment? or my Adobe reader is screwed) Edited again: note I have edited the link to Rally Design above since I first posted this this morning, as I have double checked and I quoted the wrong one. The one I have is model LLH002. The images on the Rally Design website are not accurate - the dimensions provided by Lifeline, are. moomin Quote
moomin Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Please note I have amended the model I linked to earlier, after double-checking both car and invoice. The model I have is LLH002, and fits perfectly in front of the passenger seat. Apologies for any confusion caused! moomin Quote
VX2L16V Posted September 12, 2006 Author Posted September 12, 2006 No problem Moomin thanks for the link! Ordering tomorrow Quote
