GWatson Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Hi Guys, On holiday just now and our return flights have changed which is means we miss out connecting flight back to Aberdeen with no refund. And even more fraustrating is this internet link and Greek keyboard! We can get a cheap flight with Easy jet but how on earth do we get from Gatwick to Luton at 1am on a Friday? Taxi, bus, train?? Is Luton airport even open 24 hours? Oh I think the flight leave Luton at 7:10am, so would need to be there for around 6:10am. Also thinking of getting a one way car hire and just driving it, any recommendations, seems very expensive online. Thanks in advance. Any help or pointers would be great...I have no idea how far apart they are. Any idea on taxi prices? Anyone want to earn a quick buck at 5am on the 15h ?? Graeme Quote
Chris.B's Son Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I have no idea how far apart they are. 71.8 mi (about 1 hour 38 mins) according to Google Maps. clicky Quote
peterg Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Official on site taxi (Gatwick Cars) will cost you a packet especially at that time - you sure you arrive at 1am? According to www.thetrainline.com Thameslink trains go from Gatwick Airport to Luton (train station, not airport) - there's a train (First Capital Connect) at 230am on 15th Sept arriving at Luton at 409am Edited: just checked the BAA website and there's flights virtually all night now......glad we don't live there anymore Quote
GWatson Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Thanks guys, that's a huge help. I think a direct train to Luton will be the best plan. Any idea how far the train station is to the airport, just thinking of taxis fares. G Quote
hilux Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Try `Wigmore Cars`01582 481747. (nowt personal, I use them occasionally thats all) Ring when on the train and book to meet you. Train station is 5+ mins in a cab from `Luton Airport Parkway` to terminal Quote

Rail information and ticket desks are located in the rail station and within the arrival areas of both terminals. Quote
GWatson Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 Thanks for you help again guys. Transfer was very smooth from Gatwick to Luton. Free transfer bus to airport from the station Shame Luton airport isn't up to the number of passengers travelling from there. They have obviously spend a lot of money since I was last there. That place is a disaster! Almost missed the flight twice. Once queing for over an hour and 15minutes to check in then, 2 minutes to spare, panic over, yeah right. It took over 40 minutes to get through hand luggage checks. I remember last time I flew from Luton years ago, I said I'd never go back, now I remember why G Quote
Stuart Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Couldn't agree more. Last flew out of there to Dortmund 3 weeks ago and I will never fly from Luton again. The only way that easyjet can accommodate the number of passengers they carry is by making every check-in desk for every flight rather than the usual dedication of a desk or two for each flight - this means that if you turn up 90mins before your (day return to an industrial destination) flight with just hand luggage you have to queue behind a zillion people going on 2 weeks holiday with shed loads of golf clubs, skis or massive amounts of luggage who have turned up 4 hours before theirs. It's completely crap. Quote
