robthehungrymonkey Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 I've not iced the last few times I've been out in the car, a funny sort of clicking noise from behind me. It's strange as it only seems to appear after driving for a while, and then gets louder and more obvious. It happens mainly when i'm accelerating and turning left. Transferring the weight to that corner. Everything looks ok, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice on what it could be, and where to look for anything wrong? Car is a 2.0VX with IRS and LSD Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated Quote
westy666 Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Do you not hear it when you switch the ignition before starting the engine? i'd have thought it was just the fuel pump - in which case TADTS to a degree. if not then maybe the wheel bearings are a little suspect had some wear out on the tin top a while back and that made a noise when load was put on one side of the car etc Quote
Blatman Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Handbrake cable fouling a driveshaft? Handbrake adjuster fouling the prop? Quote
pistonbroke Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Check wheel nuts done up properly ? jack up rear end visual inspection for anything loose etc , wear / rubbing marks Check wheel bearings for excessive play / wear Check for noises play in cv joints / drive shaft ,as you rotate the wheels , any fluid leaks etc could go on Quote
robthehungrymonkey Posted September 7, 2006 Author Posted September 7, 2006 Thanks for the tips, I suspected it was loose wheel nuts as i've recently changed the wheels, but they appeared tight. Wheel bearings wouldn't make a "clicking" noise though, would they? I'll check the handbrake bits. What got me though, is how it only appears after a fiarly long drive. Quote
smithydar Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 sounds a bit like a cv joint to me.after a while it gets hot.grease runs out etc.etc. once cooled down the grease partially solidifies again in the joint and then it quietens down . this can happen when a new cv boot is fitted but without enough grease. ive put new joints on where the haynes manual man has tried doing it himself .fitted a new boot with no grease and shortly after the joints knackered. wheel bearings would be more of a whirring whining noise not what your describing. hth darren Quote
richs Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Could be exhaust mounting rubber - they don't last long. The two brackets then bang against each other. The noise can seem to come from behind and it can be heard even over a noisey engine. Quote

Though, I haven't replaced them, the previous owner might have though. Pretty sure it's nothing to do with the exhaust, as the noise is coming from behind me. Thanks Quote
